Director of Neurology-Psychiatry Research Projects


The Director will plan, organize, direct, perform and supervise overall management of multiple concurrent complex multi-stage research projects involving neuro-psychiatric disease across multiple institutions and/or companies to ensure thorough articulation of project scope and control of expectations, deliverables, outcomes, issues, needs and constraints involved to achieve optimal stakeholder satisfaction resulting in regulatory approval.


**Overall responsibilities of the Director will include:**


+ Develop research program and perform analysis of complex datasets to include genomic, serologic, endocrine, remote sensor data, electronic health records from patients with neuro-psychiatric disease.

+ Responsible for publishing results of research and develop and manage a laboratory that expands the department s capability in these areas of research.

+ To expand your research lab by obtaining grant funding from appropriate organizations.


**Program Management responsibilities of the Director includes:**


+ Manages the day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of multiple or large-scale projects in neuro-psychiatric disease by creating complete task definition, work requirement identification, and mapping.

+ Provides interaction and support with the research partners; may be the primary point of contact for project matters.

+ Builds institutional capability in project and program management by providing project management mentoring to others, and junior project managers through formal channels, assesses training needs and selects training tools for team members.

+ Assists in development of policies relating to project and program management.

+ Works closely and collaboratively with key stakeholders to define project scope, strategy, budget, and outcomes; identifies critical resource expertise and targets appropriate internal and/or external sources to ensure optimal outcomes.

+ Establishes and continually monitors/manages project expectations with team; assigns tasks and identifies issues for resolution to ensure optimal team effectiveness.

+ Prepares and maintains all project status reports and schedules; tracks milestones/deliverables, critical paths and dependencies; re-sets expectations as needed in consideration of project progress/outcomes.

+ Responds to all inquiries regarding project status; prepares and responds to all regulatory reporting/filings to ensure compliance.

+ Manages, coaches, and supervises all project team members both internal and contracted to ensure optimal outcomes; builds, develops, and maintains relationships vital to project success.

+ Works collaboratively with Principal Investigator s to engage leadership, associated scientists and other research related staff to define and identify all required project infrastructure including, but not limited to: space, build/reconfiguration of laboratory facilities, equipment, technology and instrumentation to ensure timely availability for successful launch and ongoing project operations.

+ Prepares all post-project reports, budget allocations and summaries/filings to ensure timely dissemination of information to all interested parties.

+ Works collaboratively to establish and maintain positive working relationships with outside organizations, other universities, and ASU faculty to provide technical assistance, materials, services, and other resources.

+ Manages the development of project teams by ensuring that project tasks are in line with skills, interests and abilities of individuals.

+ Reviews high-level deliverables for adherence to budget, time and resource requirements; identifies out of scope and/or other obstacles to successful achievement of objectives.

+ Organize and lead necessary project team training efforts for all facets of the project and consults with management to coordinate training and monitor observation efforts, as well as discuss noted findings.

+ Oversees the evaluation of effectiveness of programs/projects to develop and implement the goals and objectives including: improved methods of program/project delivery; evaluation methodology design and implementation including analysis of results and takes or recommends proper action based on outcomes.

+ Establishes and maintains liaison with regional, state or national organizations as appropriate.


**Minimum Qualifications for the Director:**

Doctoral qualification (PhD, MD, or DVM) and 5-years experience in large research project management in academia, bio industry, government or healthcare organizations in one or more areas of the biological sciences, biomedicine, bioinformatics, sensor technologies, molecular diagnostics, precision medicine, digital health and remote patient monitoring and related experience in strategic planning, program planning and execution and familiarity with public and private sector funding agencies.


Desired Qualifications for the Director includes:


+ Experience leading a research laboratory in one of the areas relevant to the department.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of neuro-psychiatric disease.

+ Demonstrated working knowledge of large-scale databases as they apply to biomedical research, advanced bioinformatics/analytics and biomedical remote sensor technology.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of processes for dissemination of results through presentations, reports, and publications.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of processes to conduct need assessments.

+ Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles, methods and techniques of process/quality improvement.

+ Experience in planning, budgeting, implementing and evaluating projects.

+ Experience in designing training materials and presentations to meet needs assessed.

+ Evidence of effective verbal and written communication.

+ Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and establishing and facilitating work teams.

+ Experience in effectively communicating relevant project/practice information to superiors and peers in other practices.

+ Experience in challenging others to develop as leaders while clarifying roles and responsibilities.

+ Experience in evoking creative and innovative thinking from team members while helping them to bring their ideas and career plans to fruition.

+ Experience in developing proposals for external funding of projects.

+ Experience in handling difficult personnel situations directly, using appropriate discretion, HR advice, and respect for the individual.

+ Experience in implementing training, session reviews, and follow-up procedures.
