Description and Requirements

Summary of Position:

The Director of Product Development will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the design of new software products and/or product enhancements. They will oversee activities in the following areas:  Technology Enabled Services, Hosted Applications, database, and other types of development. 

Education Requirements:

Bachelors Degree Computer Science or related Engineering.


  • 7+ years of related experience. 4+ years supervisory experience with a track of record of leading engineering teams.
  • Must have established experience delivering enterprise solutions to the Life Sciences/Pharma Industry.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability manage the product engineering team in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with co-workers and non-technical individuals.

Essential Duties:

  • Plans and directs the design of new software products and/or product enhancements through engineers and project managers.
  • Determine the system architecture needed for new development projects.
  • Create a software development environment that combines reliable and repeatable development methods with a timely response for our customers.
  • Ensure system development is done in a manner that ensures long term reliability and allows for effective maintenance.
  • Manage both internal and external development efforts needed for new product or service offerings.
  • Works with other managers to plan and establish product goals and development strategies.
  • Ensures software projects are completed within budget and properly documented according to product specifications, time lines, and corporate quality standards.
  • Ensures that appropriate development, corporate methods and procedures are followed.
  • Collaborate with various programming and product groups within the company to ensure the required features and modifications are included in the appropriate releases to support cross-product features.
  • Contributes to new technologies and software products to determine feasibility and desirability of incorporating their capabilities within company products.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position.

Related Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Specific experience and skills include, but are not limited to:
  • Technical Management Experience.
  • Expertise and experience in running enterprise level, web based, multi-tier development projects.
  • Experience with iterative development life cycles.
  • Proven track record of delivering industry-leading web based applications.
  • Close familiarity with most of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
