Kelly Scientific is actively seeking a highly qualified Director, Portfolio Management, for a direct hire (perm) opportunity located in New York, New York. The role will be responsible for Emerging Infectious Disease (EID) Portfolio Management and Review Process, and strategic operational planning and execution of key initiatives within the EID group. This position will work closely with the Design and Development Laboratory in Brooklyn, NY, the project managers supporting the development programs, the Sr. Director EID, and other functional areas throughout the organization to achieve better integration of the organizations EID R&D efforts, as well as execution of innovative partnerships needed to facilitate product development.

The successful candidate will serve as an interface between the VP EID and the leadership of the Vaccine Design and Development Laboratory, and other functional areas, to deliver on key initiates associated with the general operations and long-term strategy of the department.

This position reports to: Vice President, Emerging Infectious Disease and Epidemiology


+ Champion for EID Portfolio Management

+ Create and update dashboards for review of key performance indicators

+ Develop and maintain tools to evaluate and track the EID portfolio and ensure alignment with impact goals and scientific priorities

+ Understand, evaluate, and compile risks to the portfolio

+ Create and update book-of-business working with designated company relationship manager

+ Identify and help resolve constraints and/or conflicts that affect multiple projects or across programs

+ Work directly with finance to develop long-term budget forecast and integrate with long-term strategic planning and portfolio management process- resulting in improved structure and efficiency

+ Develop forecasts for grants and contracts coming into the EID portfolio, and project out needs for additional funding with highlighted partner opportunities

+ Implement key initiatives to better integrate EID research and development into the broader mission and near-to-long term strategy

+ Facilitate resolution of HR issues as identified and needed


+ Masters degree in business, science, or a health-related area is required. PhD in one of these fields is desirable.

+ 10+ years of R&D experience, including managing development programs, is required

+ Detail-orientated, able to work on multiple projects/tasks with overlapping schedules and priorities, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to take initiative as new situations and opportunities arise, is required

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent listening skills and strong customer service, is required

+ The ability to oversee multiple products and new indication developments simultaneously

+ Compliance to all company safety practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies is required

+ Ability to take the initiative to resolve problems is required

+ A blend of business and scientific knowledge, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines, countries and cultures is required

+ Excellent judgment, proven ability and skills to present programs to scientific and non-scientific stakeholders is required

+ Strategic thinker who can align timelines and milestones through collaboration across various functions within the organization

+ Excellent computer literacy skills with expertise in Microsoft Office is required

+ Knowledge of vaccine or pharmaceutical development process and experience in emerging infectious diseases is highly desirable

+ Project/Portfolio Management training is highly desirable
