**Primary Responsibilities:**
Develops scope, estimate, schedule, design strategy and needed resources on electrical projects up to 1000 work hours.
Discipline lead responsible for all electrical aspects on multi-discipline projects.
Designs electrical systems that are safe, reliable, economical, constructable, and maintainable in accordance with Client standards and work processes. Systems will include both new installations and modernization of existing facilities. Systems will incorporate multiple areas of electrical technology.
Coordinates the activities of drafters to accomplish electrical design of projects.
Uses CAE/CAD tools to create complex detailed design drawings and documentation used for construction bid packages and for inquiring/ordering electrical equipment.
Exchanges technical information with peers, other engineering disciplines, and suppliers.
Evaluates Client design standards for correctness, applicability, and relevance to particular electrical installations. Submits Management of Change (MOC) documents to correct existing design standards or to create new ones.
Provides engineering field support on construction projects when requested by the Owners Representative or plant.
Specific Knowledge and Skills
Superior skills in electrical design and bid package development.
Ability to plan and organize work effectively while working on several projects simultaneously.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of national and local electrical codes and standards, electrical calculations, electrical equipment, and electrical equipment control.
**Has the ability to independently perform electrical design functions in the following area:**
Grounding
Lighting and communications
Power distribution <15kV (overhead, underground and open wire)
Distribution equipment other than switchgear (selection and sizing)
Schematic development and design
Equipment specifications and procurement
Electrical power (load flow) and short circuit calculations
Electrical switchroom design and layout
Electrical one line and three line diagrams
Electrical wiring, schematics, and interconnection diagrams
Equipment location plans and electrical hazardous area classification plans
Fuse coordination
Review vendor drawings and perform equipment witness testing
**Has the ability to understand and use many different types of engineering documentation, including but not limited to:**
P&IDs (Piping and Instrument Diagrams)
Piping isometrics and heat tracing installation drawings
Instrument Loop drawings
Electrical equipment installation instructions provided by suppliers
**Has superior knowledge and understanding of electrical equipment and the various parameters which affect their application and installation, including but not limited to:**
Substation configurations (Ring bus, breaker-and-a-half, main-tie-main, etc.)
Knowledge of current transformers (CT) and voltage/potential transformers (VT/PT) circuits and basic relaying circuits
Power and control transformers
Power distribution equipment (switchgear, MCCs, motor controllers)
Wire, cable, conduit, raceways, cable tray
5kV and below induction motors
Power electronics and variable speed drives
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Self-starter with high initiative.
**Education Must possess one of the following:**
Associate degree, in electrical engineering technology or equivalent training and experience.
Bachelors degree, in electrical engineering technology (BSEET)
Bachelors degree, in electrical engineering (BSEE)
