We are currently seeking an Electrical or Biomedical Engineer to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD **.**

**TASKS.** The contractor shall:


+ Configure and maintain hardware to capture physiological signals and behavioral measures from human participants using a variety of sensors and response devices in psychological experiments.
+ Work with staff to maintain a set of existing programmed cognitive tasks related to cognitive neuroscience and brain-imaging, using Windows and/or Linux environments, using both commercial and custom software.
+ Perform programming of computer tasks so that cognitive science data can be collected from patients; write code so that data can be acquired from brain imaging experiments; prepare programs so that data from studies can be analyzed.
+ Work with staff to conduct experimental tasks and data analysis by means of creating clinical and fMRI tasks written in E-Prime (or Presentation) as well as other computer languages such as Visual Basic, DirectX, Java and Perl/TX.
+ Work with staff to perform programming of new computer tasks (in E-Prime, PsychoPy and/or Presentation) so that stimuli for complex experiments are presented with precision timing and cognitive science data can be collected from individuals; write code such that data can be acquired from brain imaging experiments; write code so that behavioral and psychophysiological data from studies could be parsed for analysis.
+ Integrate different systems for experimental data collection in sync with stimuli delivery; advise on and implement current best practices for experimental setup and data acquisition.
+ Develop real-time and neurofeedback tasks using Python; develop data analysis codes in computer languages such as Tcl, Visual Basic, Python, JavaScript, and C++, in addition to generating Visual Basic controls for Windows Media Player applications.
+ Design, implement and perform interfacing of computer hardware parallel and serial ports; provide specifications for connection to and control of hardware equipment used in tasks; integrate newly acquired equipment into existing interface of computer hardware; perform such interfacing using complex media display equipment, where stimuli will be presented in the auditory, visual and tactile mode; debug, troubleshoot and repair similar experimental setups currently used for data collection.
+ Write code and create hardware that will integrate data on-line from psychophysiology experiments; psychophysiology data will be acquired with Biopac devices, eye-tracking machinery with an Eyelink eye-tracking device, and data collected in e-prime and associated dynameter devices.
+ Work with staff on issues of programming to ensure proper running of experiments; ensure that relevant experiments remain highly sophisticated.
+ Work with staff on software/hardware during task development and when malfunctions/bugs occur to ensure proper running of studies.
+ Create web-based computer programs using Java applets, Java Web Start, Java Plug-in, HTML, sockets, and virtual reality 3D task applications in Visual Basic and DirectX.
+ Work with IT staff to ensure that computers follow appropriate NIH procedures for security and protection of sensitive information.
**REQUIREMENTS.** The contractor must have:


+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Electrical or Biomedical), Computer Science, Physics, or related disciplines.
+ Minimum of five (5) years of related experience, with emphasis on integrating different hardware systems.
+ Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
+ Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
+ Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.
