**TASKS.** The contractor shall:




+ Design and fabricate high quality mechanical, electro-mechanical and optical instruments in support of research activities.

+ Specify, design and fabricate special-purpose mechanical, electromechanical, optical and hydraulic instruments and devices.

+ Design and fabricate component parts or specialized tooling fixtures as required for fabricating parts and assemblies.

+ Perform CAD design for individual components and assemblies, solid modeling and drawing creation utilizing SolidWorks.

+ Work with research scientists to discuss the nature of their experiments, research methodologies, existing constraints and problems to be solved.

+ Evaluate alternative design approaches, with due consideration to material properties and machining capabilities; select best design approach to meet the specifications.

+ Work with staff on the installation and initial checkout of the finished equipment in the experimental environment; plan and execute modifications to make improvements as needed following initial use.

+ Participate with team in the research programs of National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) and National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) investigators and in larger SI projects; provide technical expertise in the use of special devices and equipment, enhancing the productivity or success of the experiments.

+ Contact suppliers to obtain price, performance and delivery data for all needed materials and components.





**REQUIREMENTS.** The contractor must have:




+ Associate's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline; Two (2) years of specialized experience plus a High School diploma is equivalent to an Associate's Degree.

+ Minimum of two (2) years of related experience.

+ Ability to design using CAD package is a plus, but not required.

+ Hands-on knowledge of conventional shop fabrication.

+ Hands-on experience with fabrication and manufacturing.

+ Knowledge of and ability in using CNC Mills and Lathes and conventional shop equipment.

+ Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

+ Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
