Engineering Manager - R&D Product Design Manager (Full Time - Direct Hire)


Salary: $100,000 to $165,000 based on experience


**Job Description:**


The R&D Product Design Manager will own and lead the design of new Cryogenic solutions developed within the closed loop cryogenic refrigeration systems portion of our business. S/he is accountable for the management and execution of the Product Design Team whose primary focus is product design as part of new product introduction (NPI).


**Responsibilities:**


+ Based on marketing specifications, build design envelope for cryogenic solutions which incorporate system hardware and software requirements, safety requirements and other design principles.

+ Ensure that design meets cost/quality targets. Manage any deviations to cost/quality via Risk/Opportunity tracking at program level.

+ Lead overall design by leveraging modeling, simulation, experimental design, rapid prototyping, and other techniques to meet or exceed schedule commitments.

+ Leverage best practices from other product companies across Edwards to identify areas of cycle time improvement in cryogenics products design for NPI.

+ Ensure all hardware and software designs are released for verification and validation to the test teams at program milestones.

+ Ensure all data, including CAD, specs, assembly drawings, and other design data are documented and released into manufacturing on time at program milestones.

+ Lead design problem-solving efforts and guide team in redesign activities where necessary.

+ Identify areas for capability and competency improvement within the team. Works with Atlas Copco talent framework to upgrade team skills, including recruiting new talent, and driving a learning plan to close gaps.

+ Ensure that feedback from Technical Support team on design CIP and latest DFMEAs, based on legacy product field performance, is leveraged during NPI


**Requirements:**


+ Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)

+ Desired certification or demonstrated use of Design for Six Sigma tools

+ 5+ yrs. experience of new product development or technology project execution in a fast-paced environment

+ Previous supervisory or functional management experience in one or more departments in an engineering / manufacturing company is desirable

+ Demonstrated experience in developing new designs for complex electromechanical products that have been launched to market

+ Understanding of cryogenics and/or vacuum technology: applications space, how products work, sector technology, and manufacturing methods is desirable

+ A proven ability to manage new product development projects, particularly involving teams that are not co-located, delivering on time and to specification

+ Management expertise: able to build a cohesive team, coach and mentor staff, and to foster good communications

+ Good influencing, communication, presentation and negotiating skills

+ Able to drive cultural change across the enterprise
