**Kelly Engineering** is currently recruiting for a **(Direct Hire) (Environmental Manager)** job located in **Clanton, AL.** The Industrial Wastewater Treatment Manager is responsible for an entire process or system of machines, often through the use of control boards, to transfer or treat water or wastewater. Develop, implement and monitor environmental strategies, policies, and programs that promote sustainable development ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, Clean Air, Water and RCRA across the organization.


+ Conduct environmental audits and assessments, identifying and resolving environmental problems and ensuring necessary changes are implemented

+ Operates industrial waste treatment plant to include but not limited to treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in treatment plant to control flow and processing of discharged material.

+ Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of treatment waters and ship overboard discharge.

+ Perform confined space entry and tank cleaning operations.

+ Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings, and tests results to determine load requirements.

+ Starts and stops pumps to control flow of treatment waters through filtering, settling, aeration, flocculation, and sludge dewatering processes.

+ Maintains operations log and records readings results as required by established operations standard.

+ Collects samples and conducts laboratory tests as required by established operations standard.

+ Collects samples weekly for outside laboratory testing. Ensure the chain of custody is followed on all samples leaving the facility.

+ May operate and perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment in the wastewater department.

+ Maintains contract-required treatment (Flocculation test every two hours) and records results in ERP system.

+ Prepares information and inputs into electronic format for the (ADEM) State's Discharge Monitoring Report.

+ Performs batch treatments of spent anodizing chemistry and feeds treated material back through the system.

+ Operates chemical laboratory test equipment and gas detection instruments.

+ May be assigned duties requiring consolidation, treatment, processing, retention, or distilling of waste materials.

+ Be a member of the Spill Response Team, makes informed decisions concerning the technical operations of the Spill Response Team under routine and emergency situations.

+ Works closely with the on-scene coordinator (may be from other organizations) to assess a spill situation, determine a course of action, and coordinate support services; spill control, containment, and cleanup, including providing backup for the Fire Department, as required.

+ Manage the development and implementation of an environmental management systems

+ Works closely with Anodizing Process Manager and Lab to ensure good communication of current waster water situation and staying aware of any irregularities in the process water upstream in order to effectively manage the processing of the waste water that will be coming into the waste water treatment system.

+ Proper training of waste water technicians and regular performance reviews as required.

+ Adherence to all company, city, state and EPA policies with regards to processing and disposal of waste water, sludge and any other discharged materials.

+ Keeping abreast of the latest technologies and processes for treatment of waste water.

+ Ensuring company receives and maintains ISO14001 certification.

+ Performs other related duties as assigned.

+ The proper use of tools and equipment commonly used in the wastewater treatment field.

+ Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.

+ Timely and cost-effective performance of duties.

+ Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work.

+ Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.

+ Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices.

+ Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures.

+ Having the ability to work well under pressure.

+ Management of chemical supply and spare equipment, tools, meters, etc. to eliminate unscheduled downtime of waste water treatment.

+ Communicate with tact and professionalism

+ Cultivate a positive atmosphere across the company by fostering teamwork and sharing information across all departments and levels.

+ Provide steady communication to employees about expectations and performance. Partner with employees and provide any tools needed for them to achieve success in their position.

+ Base decisions on tangible and measurable evidence without personal bias or emotion.

+ Determine necessary resources to meet department needs and goals.

+ Define skill-set and educational requirements within Department Job Descriptions and review for changes annually

+ Organize workflow to meet specifications and deadlines

+ Create and maintain a comprehensive training plan for each position and ensure the employee knows what is expected.

+ Utilize proper interviewing techniques to determine if candidate aligns with position requirements.

+ Develop and utilize a repeatable process of selecting applicants for interviews for open positions as well as for selection for hire.

+ Maintain a working knowledge of federal and state regulations in regards to recruiting, hiring, working hours and accommodations.

+ Evaluate employee performance using quantitative/measurable objectives that are applied to every employee equally and consistently.

+ Develop strategy for assisting employee in bringing low-performance areas up to acceptable levels.

+ Maintain a performance evaluation schedule for employees and discuss evaluations with the individuals within 5 days of due date.


+ BS in Science, Chemistry, Environmental or Engineering.

+ Five (5)+ years experience in environmental compliance, policies and procedures.

+ Previous experience interacting with city, county, and state environmental regulatory departments desired.

+ Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in an automotive industry background.

+ Previous supervisor experience, excellent leadership skills and the ability to actively lead and/or participate in a fact based, cross -functional teamwork environment desired.

+ Project Management skills.

+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word. Working knowledge of Publisher and Access a plus.
