Kelly Services is seeking a **Fatality Review and Prevention Epidemiologist** for our client in **Indianapolis IN.**

**This is a 1 year contract and is paying $23.64/hr**

**Purpose of Position/Summary:**

The incumbent will respond to epidemiologic needs of the Fatality Review and Prevention (FRP) division by preparing, evaluating, analyzing, and reporting on fatality review data, including the evaluation and processing of data requests. The incumbent must be detail-oriented and able to work with and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information, possess data analysis, writing and training abilities, and capable of working with a wide variety of people and learning new programs.

**Essential** **Duties/Responsibilities** **:**

+ Acts as an epidemiological expert for FRP programs and provide leadership around the use of FRP programs data.

+ Performs and documents procedures for data preparation, including data cleaning and standardization.

+ Documents patterns of infant, child and maternal mortality that may be preventable

+ Links fatality data with other datasets.

+ Authors public health fact sheets, web pages, and reports presenting surveillance and research data on FRP programs to a wide variety of audiences in Indiana.

+ Organizes and deliver surveillance data at professional conferences, meetings, and other settings.

+ Identifies common themes, trends, risk factors among cases, and creates community reports to disseminate information.

+ Uses FRP data to identify gaps in community systems and possibilities for system improvement.

+ Helps FRP team increase awareness for the issues that affect the health and safety of pregnant women, infants and children in Indiana.

+ Participates in departmental activities, such as research group meetings, seminars, and conferences.

+ Evaluates the effectiveness of all FRP programs.

+ Conducts annual comprehensive data analyses for continuous quality improvement (CQI) and monitors the state and local data quality compare to national data.

+ Helps improve the quality and completeness of FRP data by setting data quality and completeness targets for all FRP programs.

+ Hosts presentations or trainings on data quality and the purpose and value of entering complete data for division and local partners.

+ Provide epidemiologic background and evaluation for grant applications, and assist in grant writing.

+ Assists where possible with other projects within the division.

**Job Requirements:**

+ Master's degree in Public Health with a specialization in epidemiology.

+ Previous injury prevention or fatality review experience (preferred).

+ Thorough knowledge of public health principles and practices, epidemiology, study design, and study analysis.

+ Extensive experience in the use of statistical software for data analysis; working knowledge of SAS.

+ Advanced ability to import and clean data for purposes of data analysis; compile data records into complete data sets.

+ Link records for purposes of data analysis.

+ Considerable knowledge of computers and competent in using software applications including: Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel.

+ Considerable knowledge of available injury and violence databases, qualitative and quantitative data collection methods and their limitations.

+ Advanced ability to develop assessment protocols.

+ Extensive ability to communicate with health care and public health professionals, policy makers, agency staff, and the general public both verbally and in writing.

+ Advanced experience in the writing of formal reports and articles and oral presentations.

+ Familiarity with SAS and statistical procedures, including knowledge of linking methodologies and experience working with large datasets.

+ Considerable knowledge of computers, and competent in the use of Microsoft Office.

+ Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

+ Ability to prepare reports and presentations.

+ Ability to work closely with colleagues to identify data-related problems.

+ Advanced ability to work cooperatively with staff and representatives of external partners.

+ Considerable skill in coordinating complex work tasks.

+ Advanced ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

**Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:**

Incumbent does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

**Difficulty of Work:**

Incumbent uses some judgement in determining the most pertinent guidelines to follow, but relies on the direction of the supervisor. Work is broad in scope with many facets and variables which must be interpreted as to their significance in analyzing fatality review data.


General guidance concerning program goals and objectives. Takes direction and utilizes own initiative in performing and coordinating assessment efforts of the department while discussing with supervisor. General methodology and handling of procedures are developed, and documented by the incumbent. Work is done within state and federal guidelines and budget limitations. Work is reviewed by various program staff for compliance with policy and agency program goals. Utilizes own initiative in performing and coordinating assessment efforts of the department while providing discussions with supervisor and Director of the Trauma and Injury Prevention division.

**Personal Work Relationships:**

Contacts include local health departments, local fatality review teams, epidemiologists, hospitals, community partners, and other program staff. All contacts are for the purposes of FRP data analysis activities.

**Physical Effort:**

Sedentary desk work with the possibility of light lifting up to 10 pounds.

**Working Conditions:**

Work is performed in a standard office environment with state travel required on a periodic basis (approximately 10%) by car, and out-of-state travel required on occasion by airplane.
