Description **Job Description**

The Main Street Executive Director coordinates activity within a downtown revitalization program that utilizes historic preservation for downtown economic development.

He/she is responsible for the development, conduct, execution and documentation of the Main Street program. The Executive Director is the principal on-site staff person responsible for coordinating all project activities locally, as well as for representing the community regionally and nationally as appropriate. In addition, the Executive Director should help guide the organization as it grows and as its objectives evolve.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Plans and coordinates all City events in Downtown Milton.

- Coordinating activity of Main Street program committees, ensuring communication between committees and the implementation of the work plan goals, objectives and activities.

- Assist the Main Street program-s board of directors and committees in developing an annual action plan for implementing a downtown revitalization program focused on the four point approach: Organization, Promotion, Design and Economic Restructuring/development.

- Manage all administrative aspects of the Main Street program, including purchasing, record keeping, budget development and accounting, preparing all reports required by the state Main Street program and by the National Main Street Center. Assisting with preparation of reports to funding agencies and supervising part-time employees or consultants.

- Develop, in conjunction with the Main Street program-s board of directors, downtown economic development strategies that are based on historic preservation and utilize the community-s human and economic resources.

- Become familiar and closely communicate with all persons and groups directly or indirectly involved in the downtown commercial district.

- Coordinates meetings and prepares agenda. Attends all meetings of the Board and Main Street committees

- Develop and conduct on-going public awareness and education programs designed to enhance appreciation of the downtown-s architecture and other assets and to foster an understanding of the Main Street program-s goals and objectives. Use speaking engagements, media interviews and personal appearances to keep the program in the public eye.

- Serve as a liaison and facilitator between interested property buyers/lessors and property sellers/owners.

- Assist individual tenants or property owners with physical improvements projects through the coordination of the Design Committee.

- Maintain a strong communication with members, key individuals, organizations, and government agencies, in order to promote the interests of downtown and the Main Street organization.

- Seek sources of alternative revenue (grants, fundraisers, events, etc.) for Main Street programming to supplement the monies provided by events, the City government, sponsors and membership.

- Administer grants.

- Serve as a catalyst to whom the volunteers can look for planned, progressive, and successful undertakings. Promote and develop participation and leadership within the committees and volunteers.

- Develop and conduct the ongoing public awareness program designed to enhance the appreciation of downtown through the preparation of marketing materials and speaking engagements that, likewise, advance an image of quality for the downtown

- Help build strong and productive working relationships with appropriate public agencies at the local and state levels.

- Utilizing the Main Street program format, develop and maintain data systems to track the process and progress of the local Main Street program. These systems should include economic monitoring, individual building files, and thorough photographic documentation of all physical changes and information on job creation and business retention.

- Represent the community to important constituencies at the local, state and national levels. Speak effectively on the program-s directions and findings, always mindful of the need to improve state and national economic development policies as they relate to smaller communities.

- Perform other related duties and responsibilities, as assigned from time-to-time, by the Board.

**Requirements**

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

o Knowledge of simple computer programs, Microsoft Works, and Excel.

o Ability to build and maintain various sports programs and events.

o Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and city officials.

o Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.

o Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

o Ability to self-direct and assume responsibilities with minimal supervision.

o Ability to balance several job functions at one time and meet deadlines.

o Ability to work collaboratively with the school system, governmental agencies, and community organizations.

HOURS OF WORK. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

o- This is a contract position consisting of forty (40) hours per week.

- Flexible and variable hours, Monday through Sunday.

- Employee may have supervisory responsibilities.
