**Our client** is a leading manufacturer of specialized machine tools, measuring machines, and automation systems for freight and transit railways around the world. Their machines are used for the maintenance and production of wheel sets, axles, and wheels on locomotives, freight cars, and commuter and light rail vehicles. Our automation systems support railway maintenance facilities as well as other manufacturing industries.

Founded in 1910, all of their machines are designed and manufactured at our headquarters and manufacturing facility located in Albany, New York. Client has been a Made in USA and a Made in NY Company for over a century. The Service Technician will perform all activities associated with installing, servicing and maintaining a wide range of the Companys state of the art CNC precision machine tools and related equipment for the railroad industry.


+ Use electrical schematics to test and troubleshoot electrical systems including switches, PLCs, PCs, CNCs, sensors, motors and measurement devices.

+ Use laptops, PC applications, and printed documentation to test and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic programs.

+ Use hydraulic schematics to test and troubleshoot hydraulic power systems.

+ Testing of all machines to verify calibration and operation.

+ Start-up and debug of newly manufactured or rebuilt machines both in SMTC factory and at customers facility.

+ Provide thorough reports immediately following all service activities.

+ Extensive travel both domestic and International is REQUIRED. Travel will be about 80-90% including weekends.

+ Associates or Bachelors Degree in a technical field, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering OR 3-5 years related experience in similar field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are REQUIRED.

+ Excellent time management skills REQUIRED.

+ Self-motivated individual - be able to hit the ground running meeting the companys and clients needs.

+ Very good working knowledge of mechanical and electrical process and must be able to merge them together so that the equipment is operating efficiently and effectively.

+ Experience in programming and working with PLCs a PLUS.

+ Work well with people.

+ Combine professionalism and enthusiasm in approach to work.

+ Proficiency in MS Office suite of products.
