**Flavor Technician - Food / Flavors (R&D), Valencia, CA**



**Job Summary:** Summary Set up, operate, and tend to equipment that heats, mixes, blends, and/or processes ingredients in the manufacturing of food products by performing the following duties.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:




+ Compound samples for customers with consistent accuracy and thoroughness

+ Maintain a clean work station and observe all laboratory protocols

+ Possess organizational skills and attention to detail

+ Ability to work independently on samples

+ Use appropriate analytical equipment (sg, nd, pH, brix, turbidity, etc.)

+ Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, responds to management direction; take responsibility for own actions

+ Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, percentages, and decimals

+ Meet productivity standards, complete work in timely manner and use time efficiently

+ Consistently at work and on time and ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent

+ Follow instructions and show initiative. Ask for and offers help when needed.

+ Generate positive suggestions for improving work.

+ Marks materials with identifying information.

+ Uses computer to enter and maintain inventory records.

+ Compiles worksheets or tickets from customer specifications.

+ Operate forklift and other conveyance equipment.

+ Reports food safety issues to the Sample Lab Manager or VP of R&D.



**Job Requirements:**




+ High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. **(AS or BS degree in Food Science, Chemistry or related field prefered)**

+ Ability to read two and three syllable words. Recognize similarities and differences between words and a series of numbers. Ability to read formulas and to print and speak simple sentences.

+ Perform to addition and subtraction of two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

+ Perform these operations using units of American money and metric weight measurement, and volume.

+ Ability to apply common sense understanding and to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

+ Knowledge of inventory software.

+ Must be able to obtain OSHA required forklift certification.



**Physical Demands:**




+ While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand 6-8+ hours per day; bend or twist at the neck and waist; repeatedly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach, power grasp (up to 3 hours per day), and/or pull with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to walk (3-6 hours per day); climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift up to 50 pounds (22.6 kgs.) without assistance and move up to 600-pound (272 kgs.) drums using appropriate equipment, e.g., power floor jack, drum dolly, and/or forklift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.



**Work Environment:**




+ While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to food-grade fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and toxic or caustic (cleaning agents) chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

+ Working in the warehouse may, on occasion, expose this individual to non-hazardous fumes, and noise from equipment such as forklifts and air compressor.

+ Working in the production rooms may expose this individual to noise from blenders, mixers, pumps, and forklifts.
