Formulation Laboratory Technician

**Formulation Technician- Rockford** **, IL**
Full-time, Contract position 9+ months
Mon - Fri: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Pay - $18.15/hr
**Position Summary:**
Responsible for safe and efficient formulation and filling and packaging of products. This includes achieving production goals relative to safety, quality, schedule, and cleanliness. The associate may also aid in other departments such as Quality Control, Packaging, and other departments may also be required. Process documentation is maintained in the form of batch record sheets, reports, and lab notebooks. All operations are conducted under the direction of senior personnel, with emphasis on safety and compliance to regulations and standards.
**Key Responsibilities:**
Weight, measure, dispense and mix chemicals to the recipe defined in the batch record
Set up and operate an assortment of dispensing equipment. This equipment may include fully automated filling lines
Labeling product
Cleaning, assembling and disassembling equipment
Process jobs using pipettes, peristaltic pumps, automated labelers, etc.
Complete batch records and other paperwork related to the department
Manage knowledge of raw materials, staging, work-in-process, storage areas, production steps, and the general ability to process jobs independently
Accurately describe and process failure(s) for trouble shooting and recording purposes
Assisting with process development when assigned
Ability to conduct in process quality control inspection of finished goods
Completion of metrology work orders as assigned including; calibration and preventative maintenance of filling equipment, balances, etc.
Initiate improvements by using Lean, Practical Process Improvement (PPI), 5S and other continuous improvement techniques
Ability to act and think independently
Perform all job duties in a safe manner and obey all safety policies and procedures
Perform all job duties consistent with the Code of Ethics and the 4-I values
Perform all job duties within regulatory, statutory and ISO9001 requirements
Perform other duties and cross training as assigned
Work environments include laboratory, packaging/warehouse areas and within a clean room
**Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:**
High school diploma or GED required. Some college coursework or degree preferred (ideally Chemistry of Life Science focus)
Experience in a manufacturing environment using mixing and filling equipment, preferred
Experience with continuous improvement concepts, preferredi.e. Lean, PPI, 5S, etc.
Mechanical aptitude
Ability to work in a fast paced environment
Must be able to work within a team towards common goals
Must be able to work independently
Basic PC skills
Good verbal and written communication skills
Basic Knowledge of the metric system
Ability to multitask organize/process several jobs at once
Drive towards continual personal and departmental improvement
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required. This may include using a full-face respirator
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand/walk
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Associates in this position may, as part of their job activities, generate or manage hazardous waste as defined by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Individuals in this position are required to receive initial hazardous waste training within the first 30 working days of assignment. The initial waste training shall include but not be limited to the following general categories:
o Identifying hazardous and solid waste, hazardous waste management, recycling, treatment and disposal, emergency preparedness, record keeping, pollution prevention and waste reduction
o Following initial training the Associate in this position will receive annual refresher training in the same topic field as listed above
o Associate should be comfortable working frequently with organics, including flammable solvents, strong acid bases, potential biohazards (including raw animal serums), large scale bacterial cultures, and hazardous chemicals
