We are seeking a Formulation Scientist for one of our clients, a leading animal health pharmaceutical company and their Bridgeton, MO location. This role will develop new and optimize existing pharmaceutical products for the companion animal market by applying various formulations skills and knowledge as well as provide technical expertise in collaboration with other functional groups to develop and optimize products, test new ingredients, and issue material and product specifications.


+ Leads the project development of new pharmaceutical formulations and/or the optimization of new and existing pharmaceutical products for the Animal Health market with the objective to maintain and grow the portfolio according to the innovation plan, in agreement with regulatory requirements.

+ Establishes development plans and critical path to product development

Area of accountability no.1: Formulation of products from the pipeline (from conception to optimization) Main activities:

+ Establish a comprehensive development plan.

+ Ensure agreed upon timelines are met.

+ Coordinate formulation development in agreement with QBD.

+ Ensure all needed formulation studies are planned and performed in order to satisfy FDA (QBR) or other quality standards.

+ Coordinate the organization of pilot batches and ensure agreement with regulatory requirements.

+ Organize follow up meetings with the team to validate actions taken on the project and define path forward.

+ Ensure traceability of the formulation work to support registration (CMC) and Intellectual property (patentability)

+ Expected results: Ensure products are developed on a timely manner and in agreement with the regulatory requirements

Area of accountability no.2: Formulation development and transfer: Main activities:

+ Manage the scale-up and the engineering batch manufacturing in agreement with QBD.

+ Organize and manage effective collaboration with appropriate communication tools (agenda, meeting minutes, follow-up emails, etc.)

+ Ensure thorough analysis and reporting of engineering batch data.

+ Collaborate with other teams in elaborating the commercial batch record and manufacturing process.

+ Initiate the FMEA on each project with the project manager to anticipate and mitigate any risks working towards a zero defect product.

+ Expected results: Ensure the process is mastered as accurate, robust, and reproducible

Area of accountability no.3: Cross functional collaboration Main activities:

+ Collaborate with Industrial Operations to anticipate arrival of products in the development pipeline

+ Collaborate with R&D Analytical to align resources and schedule as well as for discussing results and concerns

+ Collaborate with CMC coordinator and Regulatory team to ensure a smooth process during registration

+ Expected results: Effective time management and efficient communication within the project team

Area of accountability no.4: Follow and improve Formulation Laboratory processes Main activities:

+ Write, maintain and upgrade standard operating procedures for the formulations laboratory to maintain GMP compliance and good working practices

+ Create and maintain a system for collecting and preserving information generated within the Formulation group by experimentation or literature search

+ Expected results: Defined processes are captured in SOPs. Formulation project files and archives are maintained in an efficient and timely manner

Area of accountability no.5: Work Health and Safety and Environment Main activities:

+ Ensure that all measures are taken for ensuring safety for everyone involved in the process.

+ Comply with all relevant policies and procedures.

+ Attend relevant training.

+ Report any unsafe acts or omissions as soon as practicable

+ Report any hazards or incidents as soon as practicable

+ Co-operate with any reasonable request in regards to health, safety and environment in the workplace.

+ Expected results: Establish a safe and healthy work environment in accordance with our clients policies.


+ BS in Chemistry, Engineering, Industrial Pharmacy or related fields

+ 2-5 years of experience in Formulation Research and Development or Technology Transfer pharmaceutical manufacturing in a GMP environment preferred.

+ Possess high level expertise and experience in formulation related to chemistry and pharmaceutical industry

+ Strong written and verbal skills required. Possesses the ability to generate written reports on technical topics which can be understood by both technical and non-technical audiences.

+ Proficiency with FDA requirements

+ Strong working knowledge of cGMP practices

+ IT: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point, Google Suites

+ This position requires an incumbent that is highly motivated to lead formulation projects, to keep them on track and anticipate risks to the project and to meet the expectation of the R&D

+ This position will rely heavily on this individual ability to organize and execute according to the overall project plan

+ High level of mastery of skills in formulation science and/or process development in a GMP environment.
