**Kelly Services is currently seeking an Furniture Design Engineer for one of their top manufacturing clients in the Mt Holly AR area.**



The Innovation & Design Engineer (New Product Development) is responsible for filling the innovation funnel and also leading cross-functional teams through an innovation process for commercialization of new products. They ensure the timely and accurate completion of multiple strategic initiatives and projects occurring simultaneously. This individual needs to have strengths in anticipating furniture industry trends, identifying and/or conceptualizing products to meet these needs, articulating a vision, creative problem solving, collaborating with a diverse cross-functional team, and coaching and developing a team through their projects for successful outcomes. They need to be a self-starter, who can operate at a high strategic level as well as be willing to roll up the sleeves to advance project work as needed.



**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**




+ Plans and implements all engineering projects cradle-to-grave including defining the project scope, project activities, milestones, contractor requirements as well as plant and customer requirements.

+ Manage determination of project specifications for business development by studying product design, customer requirements and internal proposals with all relevant members; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.

+ Improve existing product designs to meet customer requirements and industry trends.

+ Develops and maintains a schedule and budget for the assigned engineering project operating with a high sense of urgency to ensure the process meets required deadlines.

+ Responsible for building an innovation roadmap, maintaining and executing it.

+ Provides reports on the status of project milestones and adjusts schedules accordingly.

+ Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget. Is responsible for project forecasting and spending.

+ Identifies project staffing requirements and coordinates staffing with supporting organization managers.

+ Solve gaps in long term plans.

+ Creates production documentation including bill of materials, production flow paths, part and substitutions.

+ Lead and influence innovation to develop and launch short and long term new product initiatives.

+ Coordinates preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents, and bid packages.

+ Assigns and oversees project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.

+ Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

+ Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.

+ Prepares interim and completion project reports.

+ Provides project management and technical leadership in launch activities, ensuring the New Product Review process (NPR) is followed.

+ Develop and manage new product and program handoffs to Manufacturing and Production departments (process and materials) to ensure a smooth transition of new product launch activities throughout the production process.

+ Assist the shop with any questions that arise during build and tryout

+ Determine most effective process parameters for a new design.

+ Conducts analyses and/or tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials or processes and completes required documentation by applying engineering principles and company standards, and generating reports, procedures, or change proposals.

+ Recommends changes to refine and enhance products and processes by applying continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to areas of production.

+ Develop strong, collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Operations, Sales, Research & Development) to ensure collaboration and alignment of direction at all stages of development and launch.

+ Direct, lead, and coach, members of select project teams to execute brand plans.







**Minimum Education, Skills & Abilities**




+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Furniture Design

+ Furniture design experience preferred

+ CAD experience

+ Experience in cradle to launch design process, including prototypes

+ Experience with process design and based on Lean Principles.

+ Solid technical background, with understanding or hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment

+ Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills both with individuals and in teams.

+ Must be self-directed and have the desire to take on new challenges without being prompted and exhibit a strong work ethic. Need to have a strong sense of urgency.

+ Advanced skills in organization, time management, flexibility and decision making ability.

+ Ability to solve complex problems and arrive at practical solutions.
