Gage Technician

SUMMARY:

Responsible to provide technical analysis support in the area of dimensional gauges and measurement equipment for the Gauge Management System in order to produce quality machined parts. The incumbent will also the designated quality trainer and provide appropriate quality training to the respective individuals.

Gauging and Training:

1. Manages Gauge Inventory, including interval monitoring as well as outside calibration assignments

2. Performs gauge calibrations for new and existing gauges and fixtures using approved standards.

3. Assist Purchasing with the purchase of new/existing gauges with the specifications as required. Ability to interpret drawings.

4. Coordinates external calibrations for measuring equipment

5. Maintains all necessary logs, records and reports for the gage calibration equipment. Responsible for accurate record keeping of gage status in Gauge Tracking software.

6. Maintains Approved Supplier Listing and Certifications of gauges.

7. Completes a variety of forms and records (RFQ-s, Gage R&R-s, and Gage Cal Due Reports)

8. Provides training and instruction on the proper use of gauges and inspection procedures as needed

9. Provides training to new and existing personnel in the use of and maintenance of certain Metrology equipment and maintenance of related documentation.

10. Ensures each work cell-s Gage Station is complete and maintained.

11. Assists and coordinates with GP12, completion of PPAP activities, Gage R&R-s, Part Layouts and electronic records as needed.

12. Coordinates with outside services for certification and maintenance of gauges as required.

Health & Safety:

15. Maintains a safe workplace, wearing protective clothing, using safety equipment, following safe working procedures, reporting unsafe or unhealthy situations.

16. Maintains a clean work environment in immediate work area as well as general facility.

Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement:

18. Participates in the Continuous Improvement Process and applies team principles, identifying areas for improvement, assisting with problem solving and recommending changes.

Teamwork:

21. Facilitates and /or participates as a member of teams and attends a variety of meetings to share information, solve problems and cooperate with as a team member.

OTHER:

22. Supports the Wescast Way which includes the Scanlon Principles, Company Values, Lean and Innovation.

23. Supports and participates in the Continuous Improvement Process

24. Complies with company policies and procedures.

25. Performs other tasks as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential task satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent experience with minimum 2 years of experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment. Working knowledge and experience with awide range of gages including CMM-s and Microscopic an asset. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and teamwork skills. Demonstrated proficiency with computer programs such as MS Office. Gage Management software (Gage Trac) an asset. High School diploma or equivalent experience preferred.

Standing, sitting and walking can be expected. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception as well as the ability to focus.
