**Schedule: Monday- Friday 8am - 5pm**

**Pay Rate: $22/hr**



The primary responsibilities of this position are to analyze environmental samples for primarily semi-volatile organic compounds and, when needed, volatile organic compounds analysis using GCMS instrumentation, and to review data for reporting prior to release to clients. Assistance with maintenance of instruments and in the development of new methods or modifications to procedures is also required. It is the responsibility of the GCMS Analyst to ensure that high quality data is produced, in accordance with prescribed methods and standard operating procedures, and that this data is analyzed and reported in a timely manner in order to meet client deadlines, including weather-related rush orders.


+ Responsible for the entire analytical process including instrument set up, sample analysis, and data review using Agilent GCMS analytical equipment and following EPA methods.

+ Candidate will perform environmental sample analyses on Agilent 6890/5975 GC-MSD w/ Chemstation software. User must be well-versed in, and be able to run successfully, EPA methods 625 and 8270 for semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOC's), operating, at varying times, in full scan and SIM modes.

+ GCMS experience with methods 624/8260 for VOC's with purge-and-trap sample introduction, in addition to GC experience, is desired.

+ Operator should be able to run, maintain, and troubleshoot GCMS systems, and at times may be required to prepare sample extracts for analysis.

+ Become proficient with in-house laboratory information management system.

+ Become familiar with all federal, state, and local requirements for analysis and quality control.

+ Provide peer review of data generated in the laboratory.

+ Participate in SOP development and updates as necessary.

+ Maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment.

+ Maintain documentation on calibration, inspection, and repair activities.

+ Exercise laboratory safety practices.

+ Exhibit a strong commitment to quality and integrity.

+ Identify and report quality problems to the supervisor or Laboratory Manager.

+ Perform other duties as assigned.


+ Bachelors Degree in a scientific discipline.

+ Minimum of 1 - 3 years of experience with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) analysis.

+ Possess a general knowledge of organic chemistry fundamentals; ability to understand terminology and principals in order to comply with analytical methods.

+ Possess strong computer skills with knowledge in Excel and Microsoft Word, and the ability to learn laboratory information management system in a timely manner.

+ Ability to multi-task, be organized, detail oriented, and possess excellent problem-solving capabilities; will have good time management capabilities and be able to work independently of supervision.

+ Ability to take ownership for meeting goals, objectives and deadlines; willing to be accountable for ones own decisions, and willing to give 100%. Able to look for new ways to accomplish objectives.

+ Proficient English language verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate well with staff, management and clients in a professional manner.
