We are seeking a **Histology Technician** **with immunology experience** at the National Institutes of Health in **Bethesda, MD**


This is a long-term contract position which offers:

**TASKS/SERVICES** . The contractor shall:

(1) Engage in problem solving as required to solve technical difficulties and to ensure steady progress, with a goal of providing high quality experimental data suitable for publication.

(2) Evaluate new types of experimental approaches/analyses and recommend changes to protocols.

(3) Determine when modifications and adjustments are necessary for experiments.

(4) Troubleshoot issues with technical procedures; utilize trial and error methods customize protocols to the biological systems utilized in the laboratory.

(5) Work with staff on processing specimens for embedding according to protocols.

(6) Perform fundamental procedures required for research projects.

(7) Perform routine experiments and tests, including tissue culture, cell separation, protein, and quantitative and qualitative analysis.

(8) _Perform primary cell culture techniques_ and _immunohistochemistry_ .

Follow established procedures and protocols; utilize _aseptic technique_ to perform experiments.

(9) Perform a variety of laboratory techniques and procedures.

(10) Plan and execute experiments for in vitro and in vivo studies, including cell culture, _Western blotting_ and _immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry._

(11) Perform flow cytometry-based experiments, including cell preparation, cell sorting and molecular analysis of sorted subsets.

(12) Perform routine analysis and tests on specimens in the laboratory.

(13) Perform experiments on samples according to protocols.

(14) Perform routine experiments and tests; follow established procedures and protocols.

(15) Prepare materials and equipment for experiments.

(16) Maintain stocked supplies and records of working reagents, including fixatives, buffers, solvents and staining.

(17) Process and organize multiple samples simultaneously.

(18) Work with a variety of routine and specialized laboratory instruments and equipment in the laboratory.

(19) Ensure that all specimens and equipment necessary for experiments are available and in good order.

(20) Prepare specimens and equipment for use in the laboratory.

(21) Perform processing, description and analysis of specimens.

(22) Perform quality control procedures necessary to ensure the accuracy of each test system, sample processing, storage and inventory of samples.

(23) Maintain inventory system and sample storage according to outlined guidelines.

(24) Ensure that policies and procedures regarding sample retrieval and use are followed.

(25)Perform processing, description and analysis of samples.

(26) Work with staff to implement storage and distribution of biological samples for future scientific research.

(27) Convey and discuss research results with team lab members.

(28) Collect and enter research data into laboratory notebooks and databases.

(29) Collect data and prepare for analysis and interpretation.

(30) Work with staff on the maintenance of laboratory logs and databases.

(31) Analyze, summarize and interpret data obtained from research studies; evaluate for completeness and validity.

(32) Ensure that supplies and consumables are ready and on hand as necessary for maximum efficiency in the laboratory.

(33) Work with staff to cover glassware washing, media preparation, and autoclaving.

(34) Clean glassware and microscopic slides.

(35) Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment such as glasses, metal instruments, sinks, tables and test panels.

(36) Ensure that adequate clean inventory is available for immediate usage.

(37) Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and initiates purchase orders.

(38) Performs routine equipment maintenance.

(39) Analyzes, documents and reports on all procedures performed and produces detailed reports for use by senior staff.

(40) Trains staff in performing routine laboratory tests and procedures.


**REQUIREMENTS** . The contractor must have:

(1) Bachelors and/or Masters degree in biology or related field with laboratory-based training.

(2) Minimum of 3 years of experience performing histology, antibody validation, immuno-histochemistry (IHC), and multiplex immunofluorescence (MF-IHC) biomarker screening.

(3) Minimum of 3 years of experience in tissue clearing protocols, in situ hybridization using RNAscope HiPlex and related assays, tissue dissection, and tissue/cell culture.

(4) Minimum of 3 years of experience with basic animal handling (rats and mice) and standard chromogenic and fluorescence IHC techniques.

(5) Minimum of 3 years of experience in microscopy (brightfield, epifluorescence, confocal, light sheet), and flow cytometry.

(6) Experience with: Animal Handling: Mouse, Rat
