We are currently seeking a Histotechnologist to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in Research Triangle Park, NC.

**TASKS.** The contractor shall:


+ Perform laser capture microdissection (LCM) on rodent and human tissue samples (paraffin-embedded and frozen tissue).
+ Coordinate all projects submitted to the LCM core and respective LCM parameters used for each project.
+ Operate a cryostat and cut frozen sections.
+ Extract RNA, DNA and protein from LCM samples.
+ Prepare genomic libraries for next generation sequencing (RNASeq, exome seq, etc.).
+ Contribute to other research projects (such as PCRs and cell culture) in the Molecular Pathology laboratory through scientific and technical support.
+ Present project/core user progress to group leader.
+ Coordinate the training of laboratory staff in laser microdissection techniques.
+ Perform scientific maintenance of the laboratory, including laser microdissection microscopes and equipment.
+ Maintain written records of experimental procedures and data.
+ Evaluate new types of experimental approaches and analyses and recommend changes to protocols based on knowledge of scientific literature, available facilities, and research needs.
+ Work with staff to write and edit manuscripts; present findings at laboratory meetings.
**REQUIREMENTS.** The contractor must have:


+ Master’s degree in Biology or a related scientific discipline; two (2) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a Master’s degree.
+ Minimum of three (3) years of laboratory experience in biology or a related field.
+ Experience working in a laboratory environment.
+ Knowledge of proper laboratory disposal methods and safety procedures.
+ Knowledge of laser capture microscopy and subsequent extraction of RNA, DNA and proteins from LCM samples.
+ Knowledge of microtomy, staining procedures, frozen sections, preparation of solution, and equipment maintenance.
+ Knowledge of anatomy, histology, histology lab theory, histology lab techniques and specimen processing.
+ Knowledge of rodent necropsy techniques.
+ Knowledge of Windows XP, Mac-OS X, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point).
+ Demonstrated evidence of competence and scientific productivity as indicated by authorship on papers and informal presentations to work group.
+ Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
+ Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
