The Human Resources Generalist is a highly tactical position focusing on operational HR, Benefits, and regulatory compliance. This position provides high-quality human resource support, delivering expertise and best practices in the area of recruiting and selection, benefits administration and reconciliation, wellness programs, training and development, workers compensation, and positive employee relations.

**Essential Functions**

1. Assists with all internal and external HR-related matters.

2. Participates in developing organization guidelines and procedures.

3. Recommend strategies to motivate employees.

4. Administers and promotes employee benefit programs such as retirement plans; medical, dental, vision plans; life insurance plans, temporary disability programs, leave programs, and wellness programs. Assists with enrollment and open enrollment as needed. Assist employees with claims resolution, approving invoices for payment, and participate in annual re-evaluation of plans.

5. Conducts/coordinates routine audits of benefit elections/payroll deductions.

6. Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as FMLA, workers compensation injuries, unemployment claims and resolve any issues that may arise

7. Ensures required reports are filed timely related to employment, payroll and benefits, such as EEO-1 and Form 5500. Maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to required regulations.

8. Maintain employee data on an ongoing basis; prepares, interprets, monitors, and analyzes all HR data and metrics (headcount, new hires, termination, turnover, promotion, year-end comp, talent, performance management, etc.) to deliver accurate reporting.

9. Conducts/coordinates recruitment effort for all Corporate exempt, nonexempt, and temporary workers; writes and places advertisements; works with supervisors to screen and interview candidates; conducts reference checking; extends job offers; conducts new-employee orientations; employee relations counseling; conducts exit interviews.

10. Partners with Corporate Safety Manager and/or Port leaders or HR/Payroll Specialists regarding workers compensation issues.

11. Establishes and maintains department records and reports.

12. Disseminate Corporate policies to Port locations.

13. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.

14. Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.

15. Back-up to Corporate HR/Payroll Administrator.

16. Assists HR Director with other duties as needed.
