The purpose of this job is to provide Instrument Design engineering services to Client Businesses. The successful candidate typically works as a member of an engineering team involved in the design of capital and expense projects. The successful candidate will serve as the Instrument Design lead who coordinates the work of any other instrument designers (Client or contract) working on a given project.

The primary duty of an Instrument Design lead is the preparation of engineering design packages; these packages include installation details, wiring termination drawings, location plans, instrument schedules, and labor specifications. The Instrument Design lead is also responsible for developing the instrument specifications. This individual interfaces with other members of the project team including other design disciplines, construction, procurement, project management, project engineering, project controls, process engineering, process control and our High Value Engineering Center in India.

The knowledge/skills required to be successful in this position include:

A superior knowledge and understanding of instrument equipment and the various parameters which affect their application and installation.

Applying knowledge of Global Project Methodology (GPM) and Instrument / Analyzer work Process discipline (IAWPD) work process

Applying knowledge of the global design standards (EMETL - Electronic Most Effective Technology Library) for instrumentation

Proficient in the understanding and use of engineering documentation:

P&IDs (Piping and Instrument Diagrams)

Process Flowsheets

Wiring, schematics, and interconnection diagrams

Equipment location plans and electrical hazardous area classification plans.

Global Pipe Specifications

Piping isometrics

Equipment installation instructions provided by suppliers

**Proficient in the use of software tools:**

Microsoft Office


AMSL Approved Manufacturer Supplier List

Instrument Sizing and Selection Tools (Flow, Control Valve, Level, Pressure) Propix sizing toolset preferred

IPDS Instrument Process Data Collection system

PPDS2 Physical Properties programs

**Familiar with software tools:**


PlantView 3-D modeling

INtools (Database Tool)

**The knowledge/skills required to be successful in this position include:**

Proficient in the organization and utilization of engineering design packages

Capital project experience is helpful

**Required qualifications:**

An associate degree or higher in instrumentation and/or electronics/electrical technologies. Equivalent experience will be considered.

A minimum of 8 years of experience in instrumentation and/or process control applications
