Client Background: The client is a United States Department of Energy National Laboratory operated by local private university under the programmatic direction of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science and is located in Menlo Park, California. They perform research centered on a broad program in atomic and solid-state physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine using X-rays from synchrotron radiation and a free-electron laser as well as experimental and theoretical research in elementary particle physics, astroparticle physics, and cosmology.

Project Summary: Kelly IT Resources is working directly with a really awesome company in Menlo Park, CA ---our internal team actually sits onsite there and works with a ton of managers and departments within the organization. The IT team there has the following need for additional contractors to help with an on-going security and compliance patching project there onsite. Likely a long-term project for most of next year or longer--- $30-$40/hr (PLUS an additional $4.48/hr in a health and welfare benefit to use for a 401k or health coverage). We currently have a contractor there already, really enjoying the project, but with the project increasing and expanding so much, they really need even more additional resources to help aid in the future success of the project!

The Job Details: The Computing Division at the organization maintains minimum security requirements for desktops, laptops, and other computing devices connected to the company network. Centrally-managed systems are patched through automated processes. In some cases, manual intervention is needed to bring systems into compliance. Were looking for individuals to join a small team of people working to ensure compliance at the Lab.

IT Patching Project Specialist Duties:

Working with project manager to find, select, and schedule the work, optimally filling the processing pipeline

Performing pre-patching liaison with the end user

Assisting user in removing unneeded software

Recommending acquisition of new licenses for software that is no longer supported

Upgrading or patching vulnerable applications as needed

Dealing with any compatibility issues in hardware, software, networking, etc.

Researching compliant versions/patches for software

Working with the Cyber Security team to re-scan the system

Validating that vulnerabilities have been addressed

Helping with process improvement, documentation, providing regular feedback, etc.

IT Patching Project Specialist Required Skills:

Proven experience with Windows endpoint administration, including Windows OS installation and upgrades, and system security

Experience installing licensed software and applications

Strong Windows troubleshooting skills

Experience with enterprise-level networking services, including Active Directory, DHCP, etc.

Desire to work as part of a high-performing, dedicated team.

Ability to work on a fast-paced critical service delivery team, and to sustain the pace for many months

Resourceful, resilient, self-starter

Understands and respects process

Knows when to seek assistance

Willingness to adapt work hours, since many patching sessions are best done early in the morning, in the evenings, or on weekends

Flexibility as the project work evolves over time

Customer focus and excellent skills in customer service

Ability to provide white glove service when needed

Strong written and verbal communication skills

IT Patching Project Specialist Desired Skills:

Familiarity with Windows SCCM/WSUS

Familiarity with RDP, Bomgar

Familiarity with patching software such as PDQ Deploy

Familiarity with system administration and/or patching for Macintosh, Unix (Rhel, Ubuntu)

Familiarity with other network-attached devices (e.g., cameras, displays, etc.)

Experience with enterprise endpoint patching applications and methodologies

IT Patching Project Specialist Education & Experience:

Two-year college degree and two or more years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
