Description and Requirements

The IT Tools and Automation Engineer is responsible for supporting and administering IT operations and automation tools across the enterprise, cloud, and data centers. The engineer is also responsible for building standards and templates as it relates to infrastructure monitoring services including application specific dashboards.

  • Provide overall management and function as subject matter expert of infrastructure tools, including installation, configuration, and associated as-built documentation.
  • Deliver infrastructure reporting metrics related to our data centers and hosted applications.
  • Collaborate with system engineers and administrators leading automation of infrastructure monitoring tools to streamline processes and ensure proper response and actions.
  • Create relevant dashboards and reports for both operational teams and management.
  • Develop technical roadmaps for the automation of new infrastructure solutions and services.  Work closely with engineers and architects to achieve objectives.
  • Automate reporting whenever possible to reduce manual reporting of systems and controls.
  • Function as the scripting expert for infrastructure teams in the plan, design, and delivery of infrastructure monitoring solutions.
  • Adhere to IT technology standards, methodologies and processes.
  • Establish and maintains clear and timely communication with manager and team members.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or 7+ years equivalent combination of education, skills and experience
  • Certifications in Azure/AWS Cloud Certifications, SolarWinds, Microsoft SCCM, VMware vRealize Operations and automation preferred 
  • 5+ years hands-on experience in a Systems Engineering role, managing infrastructure tools, cloud services, and solutions and instituting measurable service levels, standards, and best practices for infrastructure monitoring in a mid to large enterprise environment
  • 3+ years of experience designing and automating scripts to implement services, solutions, or systems used to support infrastructure services
  • Working knowledge of compute, storage and database technologies as it relates to monitoring tools and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to automate processes and systems to deliver expected results utilizing strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python or other cross-platform languages) or tools such as Ansible to automate repetitive tasks
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Knowledge and experience operating in ITIL  
  • Working knowledge in the following technology:  
    • Windows Server 2008-2016; Linux experience a plus
    • Office 365 services
    • SolarWinds IT Management Tools or similar
    • Integration of alerting, notification and event management services through ITSM toolsets, such as Teams, Slack, Victor Ops, Jira Service desk
    • Log centralization, analytics and dashboarding tools such as Splunk or ELK 
    • Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
    • Microsoft Active Directory; Azure Active Directory and Connector experience a plus
    • Realize Operations and/or Automation a plus
    • Core cloud services in Azure and AWS a plus
  • Ability to write end user and IT instructions, routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, vendors, employees or management
  • Microsoft PowerBI training a plus
