**Overview:** Kelly Services is seeking several Junior & Mid-level R&D Chemists for a global leader in the development of specialty chemicals for the asphalt, mining, fertilizer, phosphate, and oil and gas industries worldwide. These are direct hire positions in Mulberry, Florida.

The R&D Chemist provides advanced technical support for all business units in the areas of anti-caking, dust control, granulation additives and coloring agents by working with and taking direction from the area Technical Manager and Sales Managers. The position contributes to and can lead ongoing Research and Development. The projects and goals are aimed at solving problems and providing answers to Sales Staff and Customers; to improve product quality and to develop new products.


- Evaluate the chemical and physical properties of various organic and inorganic substances (raw materials) in order to investigate their applications to mining/crop nutrient chemicals.

- Formulate or Synthesize new chemistries tailored for the crop nutrition and mining markets

- Evaluate customers needs; interface with clients to determine the product's future direction.

- Design new products and make improvements to existing products and formulations.

- Test finished products for quality purposes and recommend changes to product specifications as necessary.

- Participate in ongoing research projects, fostering creative ideas and promoting teamwork in the successful completion of assigned tasks.

- Design and execute test programs, collect and analyze data, perform sound scientific interpretation of the data, run pilot tests and industrial tests, write reports in a clear, concise and logical manner and coordinate documentation and communication of information.

- Work with marketing and sales team to help determine customers unmet needs.

- Effectively work with operations team throughout the scale up process of new products.

- Serve as customer liaison by providing rapid response and solutions to customer inquiries and requests; help to resolve quality corrective actions.

- Provide laboratory support to QA and Production; perform analytical tests.

- Develop novel test method to demonstrate product performance; create performance standards.

- Write, revise and edit documents such as Technical Data Sheets.

- Supervise Laboratory Technicians by leading, directing, and assigning work.


Ideal candidate for position 1:

Bachelors degree + 1 year of experience (industrial exp required this can be through 1 years worth of internship time in a lab / research capacity or one year of a job in a lab setting.)

Preferred setting / industry would be petroleum products, oils, asphalts

Ideal background: polymer science, materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry. Less preferred but might work Biology degree.

Ideal candidate for position 2:

Bachelors degree + 5 years of relevant experience

Ideal background: Experience physical chemistry (rheology - moving viscous material and adhesion like the chemistry of asphalt) or urea (a chemical used in fertilizers).

- Prior experience working specialty chemicals, specifically emulsifiers and additives, preferred.

- Must be self-motivated with a can-do attitude

- Proficiency with MS Office products Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment

- Basic knowledge of safety procedures including personal protection equipment (PPE) and standard lab safety procedures
