Kelly Services, Inc. is in need of a Coating Machine Operator in Newburyport, MA!

SUMMARY AND JOB DESCRIPTION

Perform any polypropylene or polyester film coating machine setups and operations to apply adhesive, release and/or cover coatings to hot stamped and holographic polypropylene film; material handling and finished product delivery to holding area(s).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Setup and operate single or multiple operations coasting machines to apply adhesives , colors, pigments, releases and coatings to and size hot stamped, holographic and metalized polypropylene film. Make any required machine changeovers. (Un) load materials, complete work; making machine adjustments to material feeds, take-up/idler rolls, tension rollers, material application reservoirs and rollers, nozzles, liquid tanks, heat or curing sources according to material type, thickness, strength and other criteria. Ensure specifications and adjustments are made to machine-s computerized control panel; that continuous observations and necessary adjustments are made. Inspect first and last samples and make necessary viscosity checks.

Place, align, bolt, clamp and secure fixtures, guides, sensors, slitters, switches, rollers, tension bars, material reels, feed and other mechanisms. Dial in job specifications into controller and set speeds, feeds, pressures, releases, application rates, tensions, stops according to material thickness and strength application process. Adjust and install any safety devices.

Check samples of completed work for additive application, thickness and density, bonding against specifications.

Ensure machines are routinely maintained; that specific product material stocks are available and ready for production runs. Ensure items in low supply are replaces. Clear machinery jams and malfunctions. Make required film splices and rethreads of broken films.

Record productions run quantities, job orders, product and materials used, machinery down times. Mark completed rolls.

Transport processed materials to storage or holding areas.

Secondary Elements

Maintain established quality and quantity standards, records of work performed. Follow prescribed safety

Available to work overtime as required

JOB RATING SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge: Use of elementary geometry, algebra and trigonometric principles together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables; various types of precision measuring instruments, NC equipment and personal computer to input data. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years of applied training in a particular or specialized occupation.

Experience: Over 2 and up to 3 years.

Initiative and Ingenuity: Use of judgment to plan, perform and make decisions as to the sequence of coating machine(s) set-ups and adjustments, operations, processes, including minor modifications or adjustments to work routines, computerized controllers within the limits of recognized or standard methods or procedures.

Physical Demand: Moderate physical demand in setting up, loading and operating machines and other equipment. Required to be lifting or moving average weight material much of the time.

Fork Truck: Required operational and safety training, pass a multiple choice test and a field test on a fork truck. Use of fork truck is frequent throughout the shift.

Mental Attention or Visual Demand: Continuous mental and visual attention in operating machines and other equipment and performing other activities requiring constant alertness or activity.

Responsibility for Equipment and Process: Probable damage to machines, controllers seldom over $2250.00

Responsibility for the Material, Product or Service Quality: Probable loss due to improper (un) loading, handling and processing of product and similar activities seldom over $2250.00.

Responsibility for Safety of Others: Only reasonable care in performing own work is necessary to prevent injury to others. An accident, should it occur, would result in minor injuries such as cuts, abrasions, burns and bruises.

Responsibility for the work of others: Responsible for own work or occasionally one other person.

Working Conditions: Somewhat disagreeable working conditions. Exposed to noise, heat and other shop elements with at least one present to the extent of being objectionable.

Hazards: Injuries should they occur would result in a lost time injury.

Precautions, department and company policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Detect and report improper operations, faulty equipment, detective materials and unusual conditions. Maintain work areas and equipment in a clean, orderly, operational and safe condition.
