**Lab Assistant (Portland, OR)**


Pay Rate: $17 to $18/hour, depending on experience/education


Long term Temporary Opportunity (Possible temp to perm!)


Work Schedule: Must be flexible to start between 5am to 12pm, Monday-Friday or Sunday-Thursday and work weekends as needed.


Performs a wide variety of laboratory tasks and experiments. May make detailed observations, analyze data and interpret results. Maintains laboratory equipment and inventory levels for laboratory supplies. May write experimental reports, summaries and protocols. May also be responsible for media preparation in the research and development area, including experiments as required and outlined. May also develop and maintain record keeping for experiments performed. Performs limited troubleshooting and calibration of instruments. May perform glass washing.


**Specific Responsibilities: (Other Duties May be Assigned)**


+ This position performs complex chemical sampling at various client locations and in-laboratory tasks. This may include maintaining records and clean room environment, cleaning lab apparatus and sample bottles, monitoring sample bottle inventory levels and kit supplies, pickup/delivery of sample bottles or client samples, shipping/receiving activities and other general lab maintenance. May do some general analytical tasks (following training) such as assay analysis, % solid determination, etc.


+ Receives and records sample information into the LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) along with the assignment of the correct analytical procedure, priority, due dates, sample non-conformances and sample disposition. Receives quality critical materials necessary for lab operation and ensure that they meet all quality criteria.


+ Participation in Quality Assurance program, safety program and completion of various trainings. Must be able to identify the occurrence of departures from the quality system.


+ Specialized duties may include correctly labeling and storing clean bottles and following operating procedures related to clean handling techniques. May require disposition and/or neutralization of the clean room waste and maintenance of the waste container. May also require accurate completion of shipping forms including Shippers Declaration of Hazardous Materials.


+ Must have the ability to learn more advanced analytical techniques. Position must be capable of following SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) and work instruction without supervision.


**QUALIFICATIONS:**


+ Minimum HS Diploma, and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience

+ Safe driving record

+ Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as needed

+ Must wear cleanroom garments and safety personal protective items depending upon work activity.

+ Ability to stand for long periods of time.

+ Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

+ Ability to do some repetitive tasks related removing bottle caps and shaking bottles filled with water.

+ Usually involves handling of hazardous chemicals.

+ Aptitude for and a good understanding of clean-room packing.

+ Detail-oriented

+ Strong decision-making skills

+ Ability to work independently and in a group environment.

+ Good communication skills.


**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:**


+ Some post-high school education and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience

+ Minimum 1 year of hands-on chemical experience.

+ Trained on transportation of hazardous materials under Department of Transportation regulations.
