**Lab Associate, Cell Culture, San Diego, CA**

A Lab Associate undertakes laboratory procedures related to development and production. In this role as a Molecular Lab Associate is a bench-level position responsible for assisting with PCR-based viral assay development and production requests. Associate may also be asked to perform experiments using tissue culture, virology, immunological, biochemical and molecular biology techniques.

**Duties and Responsibilities:**

+ Design and perform RT-PCR, ddPCR and q-PCR experiments for determination of organism copy number.

+ Collect and organize DNA sequencing data and assemble into reports.

+ Perform molecular biology tasks including cloning, small and large scale DNA preparations, in vitro transcription, gel electrophoresis and DNA/RNA extraction from viruses and other organisms and DNA/RNA purification.

+ Responsible for complete manufacture and assembly of multiple component kits including buffers, component assembly and final kit assembly.

+ Create and maintain batch record documentation for buffers, components and kits.

+ Perform ELISA, BCA, enzymatic assays, analyze data and write descriptive reports.

+ Labeling, vial filling with repeat pipette, lot number assignment, proper storage and inventory up-date of manufactured material.

+ Assist with general cell culture for production of viruses in tissue culture.

+ Prepare media and solutions.

+ Maintain cell banks for virus productions, including growing and replenishing cell bank stocks and maintaining accurate inventory of cells.

+ Create, file and maintain records for buffers, components and kits in support of the business and Quality System.

+ Process all lab orders from preferred vendors within pre-established timeframes and cost parameters.

+ Identify and analyzes customer needs and urgency in order to arrange the optimal mode of shipment and delivery; ensuring order is received at the appropriate destination with the agreed timeframe.

+ Interact extensively with vendors and internal laboratory staff to ensure smooth and efficient lab operations, providing timely feedback on the status of orders, materials availability, delivery expectation and/or cost as required.

+ Maintain and organize laboratory supplies.

+ Monitor inventory levels of critical items and re-order as needed, following all policy and procedures for procurement or receiving of lab supplies, gases and service.

+ Monitor and maintain various laboratory equipment including freezers, refrigerators, hoods and incubators according to General Maintenance Schedules.

+ Record temperature, pressure, and CO2 gas levels.

+ Route records for appropriate review signatures and maintain files of completed records.

+ Perform daily lab housekeeping routine to ensure sinks and lab benches are clean and clear, and in ready-to-work condition for next day activity.

+ Perform weekly and as-needed housekeeping activities to help keep the lab in clean working order.

+ Production of live viruses in BioSafety Level 2 and 3 environments.

+ Develop and refine SOP and QC testing forms.

+ Assist with R D projects during periods of high demand.

**Qualifications and Requirements:**

+ Experience with human viruses and tissue culture.

+ Technical understanding and hands on experience with various cell based assays.

+ Experience in a GMP/GLP environment required.

+ Proficient with aseptic technique and basic laboratory facilities and equipment

+ Practical experience with Good Documentation Practices, SOPs, QC forms, etc.

+ Four year degree; Biology, Microbiology, Virology, or related degree required.

+ Competent in proper pipetting techniques and experience in serial dilutions
