**Job Overview:**

The Director of Cell-Based Assays is an integral position and responsible for strategic direction and for growing and managing the portfolio of work lab-based operations. In this role, you are responsible for ensuring we delight existing clients, maintain high retention rates, and add new clients. Key to this role is the strategic leadership to serve clients including staying informed of key trends and developing solutions that address clients pain points. In this regard, the Director serves as ambassador to external stakeholders in representing the company. Equally important is using your leadership abilities to develop, lead and motivate your team, while ensuring that they receive adequate supervision, mentoring, and opportunities to further their careers. You will be supported and encouraged to publish regularly with the flexibility to be creative with the path and therapeutic areas of research we support. **Accountable for:**

1. The growth of the portfolio of work in the unit

2. Management of the work in the unit to ensure that we deliver on time and within budget. This includes the development of appropriate standard operating procedures, ensuring that we used the appropriate technical approach and ensuring compliance with project management best practices

3. Strategic leadership of the unit: Ensure that we have sound plans that provide value to clients and address problems of interest to them. This includes responsibility for the development of new service offering in the unit.

4. Provide technical direction on key projects

5. Supervising the operation of the work unit providing guidance to the personnel and activities of the unit. Ensuring consistent application of procedures to achieve overall research goals.

6. Ensure that staff in the unit are provided adequate mentoring and opportunities for advancement

7. Serve as an ambassador in cell-based assay methods

8. Keep current with new research techniques and methods by reading scientific literature, attending seminars, keeping track of changes in the regulatory landscape, and through internal collaborations; is a key participant in relevant professional societies. Exhibits potential for achieving significant impact within profession.

9. Mentoring the next generation of chemical safety science leaders.

**Education and Experience:**

PhD in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Engineering, or similar discipline.

A minimum of 10 years relevant research experience since obtaining PhD in an academic, government, and/or industry position.

Strong writing skills; published or can demonstrate excellent writing skills.

A record of impactful research in liver physiology, toxicology, disease, and/or in vitro assays is required.

Experience working with primary hepatocytes or reproductive in vitro models is preferred.

Ability to independently develop hypotheses, design and execute well-controlled experiments, analyze data, and interpret results is required.

Familiarity with any of a range of molecular biology techniques (e.g., qRT-PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, etc.) is preferred.

Familiarity with various cell-based assays for assessing toxicity (e.g., genotoxicity, viability, cytotoxicity, proliferation, mitochondrial function, oxidative stress, DNA damage, etc.), as well as general cell-biology assay techniques (e.g., immunocytochemistry, microscopy, flow cytometry) is preferred.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet milestones.

Familiarity with protocol and report writing, as well as data presentation in oral and written formats.

Proven leadership abilities to motivate, develop and lead a team.
