**Lab Technician I - Autogenous**
+ Lenexa, KS
+ Open ended contract assignment
+ Mon-Fri 7am-3:30pm
+ Starting pay: $15/hr
**Job Summary and Purpose:**
The Lab Technician I position will participate in activities working directly with egg and tissue culture, viral cultures, virus propagation, bacterial cultures and bacterial propagation techniques. This position will participate in and master processes using equipment such as: microscopes, centrifugation, roller bottles, incubators, filtration/concentration skids, fermenters using manual and semi-automatic equipment. Will participate and master the preparation of sterile and non-sterile media and reagents for tissue culture and antigen production, following strict aseptic technique and adhering to CFR Title 9 Animal and Animal Products which guide autogenous procedures.
The Lab Technician I position will ensure that production and supporting documentation is completed accurately and concurrently. Will monitor and control the inventory of supplies. Will participate in the cleaning, preparation and sterilization of reusable equipment, glassware, vessels and other equipment. Participate in the production of high quality viral and bacterial antigen using strict aseptic technique. Follow the technician specific production roles as outlined by Department Focus Factory Leader.
**Responsibilities and Key Duties:**
Basic knowledge of aseptic technique, tissue culture, bacterial and viral production methods
Basic knowledge of cell counting, microscopic examination, gram stain and bacterial plating methods
Participate in clean room laboratory work such as: Cell line passage processes (manual and semi-automatic), inoculation and harvesting of bacterial and viral antigen (manual and semi-automatic)
Set up machines (inoculation and harvest)
Disassemble machines for cleaning and sterilization and be capable of reassembling aseptically
Proper inoculation/harvest techniques to prevent minimal losses, process maximum yields and eliminate contamination.
Operate general production equipment such as autoclaves, fermenters, incubators, pumps, scales, pH/conductivity meters, inactivation tanks, incubators, microscopes, etc.
Participate in solution/buffer/ media preparations
Participate in inactivation of live antigen process
Participate in and complete aseptic sampling of antigens, media, or reagents as needed and complete the promptly deliver samples to Quality Control
Participate in and complete daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and sanitation of the laboratories, coolers, freezers and hallways
Read and understand standard operating procedures (SOPs) and manufacturing directions(MDs)
Participate in and complete concurrent data collection to ensure accurate equipment log tracking, JDE entry and departmental KPIs
Monitoring of equipment status, certification, calibration, temperature, gas level, speed, or other environment condition and maintain accurate record of use
Demonstrate a culture of safety in day to day operations, including performing JSA's, safety audits
Follow CFR Title 9: Animals and Animal Products
Participate in the implementation of safety and quality initiatives
Quality Assurance understanding: Assist in documentation review, assist in investigations as asked
Participate in and complete inventory control to ensure process delivery times and ensure little to no delay from changes in the schedule
Participate in and support on the job training and required trainings of others
Assist in laboratory or other departments/section as needed
Maintain an effective working relationship with others
Perform all other duties as assigned

Ability to work outside of set schedule, this may include weekends or holiday
Must be willing to obtain and maintain certification for forklift operation
**Qualifications:**
Education Undergraduate degree in biology or a related field preferred but not required
Work Experience Previous laboratory work preferred but not required
**Physical Requirements:**
Able to read, write legibly and understand English
Frequent repetitions of squatting, bending, reaching and twisting
Frequent standing for long periods of time
Lifting up to 55 pounds and greater (with team lift)
Frequent repetition of wrist and shoulder rotations
Dexterity: frequent fine motor movements
Visual inspection
