**Laboratory Director: Part Time**



Kelly Scientific Resources is currently seeking an **Part Time Laboratory Director** for one of our top clients in the **Dallas/Ft Worth geographical area of TX** . This company is a consistent leader in its field and is highly respected for its high-quality goods and scope of products and services.



**Job Summary:**




+ The **Laboratory Director** is responsible for directing and managing the laboratory personnel.

+ The **Laboratory Director** must be able to manage all performance of high complexity tests.

+ The **Laboratory Director** must possess a current license as a lab director issued by the state in which the lab is located if such licensing is required.

+ The **Laboratory Director** is responsible for the overall operation and administration of the laboratory, including employment of competent and qualified personnel. Even though some responsibilities can be delegated, the Laboratory Director has the ultimate responsibility. The maximum number of labs that a Lab Director can direct is five.



**Essential Duties & Responsibilities:**







+ Compliance of the Laboratory

+ Requisition and SOP approval

+ Competency of all laboratory personnel

+ Accessible to the lab to provide on-site, telephone and electronic consultation as needed

+ Ensure safe environmental conditions that are appropriate for the testing performed free of physical, chemical, and biological hazards

+ Verify that all delegated duties are properly performed.

+ Ensure testing systems provide quality laboratory services across the path of work-flow (for all phases of testing: pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases).

+ Ensure test methods selected have the capability of providing quality results.

+ Ensure verification procedures are adequate to determine accuracy, precision, and other pertinent performance characteristics of the method.

+ Ensure that test result reports include pertinent information required for interpretation.

+ Ensure that consultation is available to the laboratory's clients on matters relating to the quality of the test results reported and their interpretation concerning specific patient conditions.

+ Ensure that an approved procedure manual is available to all personnel.

+ Ensure that laboratory personnel are performing the test methods as required to obtain accurate and reliable results.

+ Employ a sufficient number of laboratory personnel with appropriate education, experience and/or training to provide appropriate consultation, properly supervise, and accurately perform tests and report test results.

+ Ensure that all personnel have the appropriate education and experience prior to testing patient specimens; receive appropriate training for the type and complexity of services offered; and have demonstrated that they can perform all testing operations reliably to provide and report accurate results.

+ Ensure that policies and procedures are established for monitoring individuals who conduct pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing to verify that they maintain competency: To process specimens, Perform test procedures, Report test results promptly and proficiently, and whenever necessary, Identify remedial training and/or continuing education needs to improve skills.

+ Have a written list of responsibilities of each individual in the laboratory that specifies: 1) the level of activity each is authorized to perform, 2) whether supervision is required for specimen processing, test performance or results reporting, and 3) whether consultant or director review is required prior to reporting patient test results.

+ Ensure that a general supervisor provides on-site supervision of certain testing personnel who perform high complexity testing

+ Ensure that quality control and quality assessment programs are established and maintained to identify failures in quality as they occur.

+ Ensure the establishment and maintenance of acceptable levels of analytical performance for each test system.

+ Ensure that corrective actions are taken and documented, whenever significant deviations from the laboratory's established performance characteristics are identified, and patient test results are reported only when the system is functioning properly.



**Skills and Qualifications Required:**



To be qualified, the Lab Director must fulfill one of the following three criteria:



1. Be a licensed MD, DO, or PM with a current professional license to practice medicine in the state where the lab is located AND one of the following:



a. Be board certified in anatomic or clinical pathology



b. Have a minimum of 1 year of lab training during medical residency



c. Have a minimum of 2 years directing or supervising high complexity testing



2. Earned a doctoral degree in laboratory science AND one of the following:



a. Be HHS board certified



b. Served as a Lab Director of high complexity testing prior to 2/24/03 AND one of the following:



i. 2 years lab training or experience in high complexity testing



ii. 2 years lab experience directing or supervising high complexity testing



3. Prior to 2/28/92 served or was qualified to serve as Lab Director under state law or Medicare lab regulations



**Must also be:**




+ Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction

+ Considerable knowledge of the basic principles and laboratory applications of biology, toxicology and chemistry and ability to apply such knowledge reliably and consistently

+ Knowledge of laboratory facilities, methods, equipment, materials

+ Ability to reliably evaluate the results of clinical toxicological tests

+ Extensive knowledge of and practice following public health laboratory laws and regulations

+ Ability to communicate with staff and clients in a professional, knowledgeable manner

+ MUST be able to self-direct, working independently while working in a close team environment
