The Clinical Laboratory Technical Supervisor is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory.


+ Work with Laboratory Director and Organization Management to ensure efficient daily workflow.

+ The technical supervisor is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory and will commit approximately 50 effort to performing clinical testing and efficiently handling workload and workflow.

+ Set priorities, organize workload appropriately and utilize effective decision-making skills.

+ Work effectively as a professional, handling difficult situations, identify and troubleshoot problems, seek and consider alternative solutions and lead initiatives to implement improvements.

+ Must be available to the laboratory as needed to provide supervision and must be accessible to the laboratory to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation.

+ Responsible for partnering with development team for successful planning and execution of technology transfer and validation of novel clinical diagnostics assays into operations.

+ Responsible for verification of the test procedures performed and establishment of the laboratory s test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system.

+ Responsible for establishing a quality control program appropriately designed and maintained in accordance with governing regulations, including NYSDOH/CLIA/CAP/FDA, for the testing performed and establishing the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensuring that these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process from the initial receipt of the specimen, through sample analysis and reporting of test results.

+ Recognize unusual patient results and identify problems in analytical procedures/systems; respond with appropriate investigation and/or corrective actions.

+ Participate in Quality Control QC and Quality Management QM Performance Improvement PI activities.

+ Work with the Laboratory Medical Director


+ A bachelor s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related science required, and minimum of six years of clinical laboratory experience with at least 8 years of experience preferred Graduate degree in Laboratory Medicine or related field preferred ASCP certification in Clinical Laboratory Science and/or hold a current, or be immediately eligible for a New York State Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.

+ Experience working in a CLIA regulated environment.

+ Experience in laboratory developed test LDT assay performance analysis and analytical validation is highly desired.

+ Experience in instrumentation use, maintenance and troubleshooting.

+ Experience in use of Laboratory Information Systems LIS/LIMS Familiarity with nucleic acid extraction, QC and sequencing platforms is highly preferred.

+ Experience performing molecular diagnostic assays is highly preferred.

+ Experience in leading teams, employee orientation and trainings, in ensuring successful completion of competency assessments and proficiency challenge testing is required.

+ Experience in process improvement and project management skills is highly preferred.

+ Experience in quality assurance evaluation of quality data/key performance indicators, lead quality improvement initiatives and address performance issues are required.

+ Experience in preparing for audits and maintaining successful accreditation to NYSDOH/CLIA/CAP/FDA.

+ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required.

+ Must be detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.

+ Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, LIMS and ability to learn other software as needed.
