Laboratory Technician - $15.00-$18.00 per hour



Under general direction, the Life Sciences Technician will perform a variety of tasks following established techniques and procedures. The Life Sciences Technician assists in study execution; collects samples from and administers agents to research animals in accordance with IACUC standards. Individual may exercise judgment in collection and processing samples such as blood, serum, plasma, tissue and urine. Documents laboratory work to acceptable standards and maintains laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures SOPs , protocols and regulations. The successful candidate will assist in administrative functions of study execution such as labeling collection tubes and transporting supplies to appropriate area, and performing all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.



**Requirements**



Life Sciences Technician requires a high school diploma and 1-2 years of relevant post-high school education (college, university or technical school) in a related scientific curriculum or equivalent work experience, and up to 2-4 years of relevant work experience in a research, commercial, or hospital laboratory; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.



Must have a demonstrated understanding of laboratory techniques and the ability to follow and enforce safety procedures as well as the ability to successfully perform a variety of routine laboratory procedures within project deadlines.



Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Preferred computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.



Previous animal handling experience in a research or training setting is strongly preferred.
