We are seeking a **Laboratory Technician** at the National Institutes of Health in **Bethesda, MD**


This is a long-term contract position which offers:

**TASKS/SERVICES** . The contractor shall:

(1) Perform a variety of laboratory techniques and procedures

(2) Provide technical help and expertise to lab members

(3) Ensure that supplies and consumables are ready and on hand as necessary for maximum efficiency in the laboratory

(4) Coordinate general laboratory maintenance, including equipment upkeep and calibration

(5) Engage in problem solving as required to solve technical difficulties and to ensure steady progress, with a goal of providing high quality experimental data suitable for publication

(6) Perform fundamental procedures required for research projects

(7) Perform routine experiments and tests, including tissue culture, cell separation, protein, and quantitative and qualitative analysis

(8) Follow established procedures and protocols; utilize aseptic technique to perform experiments

(9) Plan and execute experiments for in vitro and in vivo studies, including cell culture, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence immunohistochemistry

(10) Perform routine analysis and tests on specimens in the laboratory

(11) Perform experiments on samples according to protocols

(12) Perform routine experiments and tests; follow established procedures and protocols

(13) Operates laboratory machines and instruments; and prepares specimens and equipment for use.

(14) Performs sample management and storage.

(15) Analyzes, documents and reports on all procedures performed.

(16) Ensure that supplies and consumables are ready and on hand as necessary for maximum efficiency in the laboratory

(17) Ensure that adequate clean inventory is available for immediate usage

(18) Performs routine equipment maintenance.

(19) Analyzes, documents and reports on all procedures performed and produces detailed reports for use by senior staff.

(20) Perform laboratory maintenance tasks, including scheduling liquid waste container pickup

(21) Monitor equipment performance and maintenance schedules

(22) Coordinate general laboratory maintenance, including equipment upkeep and calibration

(23) Carry out calibration; organize and initiate service and preventative maintenance on equipment

(24) Monitor and maintain contracts for laboratory equipment and monitor equipment performance and maintenance schedule

(25) Prepare training materials and presentations for staff training

(26) Train new staff on the use, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment

(27) Train new laboratory members in the correct use of equipment, application of techniques and laboratory protocols

(28) Instruct collaborators in use of chemical instrumentation and basic data analysis

(29) Work with staff to monitor and ensure that appropriate laboratory safety courses and certifications for staff are up to date

(30) Evaluate new types of experimental approaches analyses and recommend changes to protocols

(31) Determine when modifications and adjustments are necessary for experiments

(32) Develop and assist in new assays for application based on requests from investigators

(33) Troubleshoot issues with technical procedures; utilize trial and error methods customize protocols to the biological systems utilized in the laboratory


**REQUIREMENTS** . The contractor must have:

(1) Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field

(2) Certified or knowledgeable with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Biosafety Level 2 (BSL 2)

(3) Experience with: Maintaining Stock Solutions, Equipment Maintenance, Inventory Management, Manuscript writing, Ordering Supplies, Data Analysis, SOP writing, Pipetting, Genotyping, Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), qPCR, RT-PCR, RT-qPCR, Gel Electrophoresis, Nucleic Acid Extraction, DNA Purification, RNA purification, Nucleic acid quantification, Cell culture

(4) Experience with Powerpoint, NIH POTS, Outlook, Excel, Word
