**Title:** Laboratory Technician



**Location:** Decatur, IL 62521



**Duration:** 3 months contract; possibly longer for the right candidates



**Compensation:** Up to $16.50 per hour; depending on experience





**Responsibilities:**

Perform all job functions in accord with company safety guidelines

Insure other lab technicians, contract employees, and other co-workers comply with laboratory standards

Maintain an accurate chemical and equipment inventory

Order chemicals and supplies as needed

Under the direction of manager, project leader or senior scientist, assist in the daily operations to support projects

Report on status of research activities through verbal updates, written reports, and presentations

Maintain proper housekeeping and observes safety standards

Communicate with colleagues, contractors, and suppliers, sending clear appropriate concise messages that express ideas, interpretations, and feedback

Resolve conflicts effectively to encourage teamwork, without breaking cohesion and trust

Work productively and efficiently by being organized, prepared and supporting and assisting fellow team members whenever necessary

Participate in safety reviews with colleagues on a variety of projects




**Requirements:**

Minimum B.A./B.S. degree in a science related field

Ability to execute complex scientific experiments and document results

Proficient in wet chemistry laboratory experience with fundamental knowledge of separation and purification processes preferred

Ability to design, set up, operate and maintain lab and pilot equipment

Strong organizational skills

Strong computer skills

Working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Office

Understand, track, and question activities and issues

Ability to function independently while interacting with management, facility management, and contract employees

Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve in a team environment

Ability to maintain a written and/or electronic lab notebook.

Effective writing and oral communication skills

Meticulous attention to detail

Maintain confidential and highly sensitive information

Affinity toward milestone driven and performance based environments

Physical requirements will include safely lifting and manipulating reactor systems up to 50 pounds, moving gas cylinders, and using hand and power tools




**General Job Description:**

Food processing experience preferred

Laboratory scale grain processing, grading and quality testing or solids handling experience preferred

Analytical laboratory, gravimetric, and proximate compositions experience preferred

Experience with laboratory software, including HPLC, NMR, titrations, and colorimetry preferred

Will be trained to identify and quantify mold, disease, and damage in corn.

Will conduct lab wet milling experiments, prepare steeping solutions, and perform physical separations of the corn being milled

Responsible for recording detailed lab experiments and observations.

Evaluate a variety of grains, co-products, and plant water streams.

Perform analytical work (titrations, oven moistures, HPLC, oil extractions) on co-product streams.

Responsible for keeping the lab stocked and organized with PPE and general supplies.

Responsible for discarding waste in the appropriate waste stream.

May be trained to go to the plant and retrieve samples after proper safety training.




**Skillset:**

Chemistry, Biology, and/or agronomy background

Wet chemistry lab experience

Separation and purification capabilities

Titrations, pH testing, microscopy, pipetting,

Instrumentation/equipment (HPLC, TD NMR, GAC Moisture and test weight analyzer, auto-titrators, centrifuge mills, centrifuges, ovens, etc.)
