**Laboratory Technician - Grants, NM**

The position is responsible for analyzing collected coal samples from various on-site sampling locations. Prepare samples for use in final analysis within the laboratory, analyze the samples using proper lab techniques and to maintain the cleanliness of the lab and sampling systems.

**Schedule/Shift:** 4x12-hour shifts. 4x4 Rotating shifts days & nights. Weekend and holiday work are required.

Ths will be a 4 month temporary position with possibility to extend starting at $16.00/hr. Must be able to go to training in Farmington, NM.

**Job Duties and Responsibilities:**

+ Drive a client vehicle to any of the two sampling systems on the site to collect samples representing coal being stored and shipped on and off site.

+ Preparation of samples: Reduction and division to appropriate sizes using proper ASTM methods.

+ Proximate analysis of coal (including moisture, ash, calorific value, sulfur, etc.) using appropriately designed equipment.

+ Working closely with the Quality Control to meet mine and power plant regulated quality for coal.

+ Records test results on standardized forms and data capture test reports.

+ Performing routine quality control to insure quality of work.

+ Calibrates laboratory instruments.

+ Prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas.

+ Daily housekeeping including, but not limited to the lab, the sampling system and the preparation facilities used in processing the samples.

**Job Requirements:**

+ High School diploma or GED, preferred.

+ 1 to 3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is a plus.

+ Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) and other applications.

+ Extremely dirty conditions using appropriate PPE would be normal.

+ Must have a valid driver's license.

+ Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check prior to employment.

+ Aptitude for basic math concepts and report preparation.

+ Concerned with maintaining good housekeeping practices.

+ Strong work ethic with a desire to get things done in a safe and efficient manner.


+ Ability to work independently and show initiative without relying on ongoing instructions

+ Strong problem-solving skills

+ Ability to gather and review resources and select and synthesize data for reports and other written materials.

+ Ability to work independently, often under pressured situations, within a team environment.

+ Excellent analytical skills with the ability to make sound suggestions or recommendations.

+ Excellent organization skills which includes the ability to execute several assignments simultaneously while dealing with a steady stream of seemingly conflicting requests/priorities

+ Able to use a computer for minor data entry formats.

+ Ability to effectively communicate (written and oral) presenting information individually or in small group situations to internal or external customers.

+ Ability to execute detailed written or oral instructions

+ Ability to follow directions ensuring the end results are accurate and completed with the required time-frame.

+ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

+ Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs.
