We are currently seeking an EXPERIENCED LABORATORY TECHNICIAN to work at the National Institutes of Health in Gaithersburg, MD. Gaithersburg is 30 miles from Washington, DC.

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:
1. Support team members in the Nonhuman Primate Immunogenicity Core Laboratory.
2. Perform peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) isolation using Ficoll gradients.
3. Isolate cells from tissue using a tissue homogenizer.
4. Cryopreserve samples using a controlled rate freezer.
5. Store samples in liquid nitrogen tanks.
6. Organize and inventory mechanical and liquid nitrogen tank freezers.
7. Retrieve samples from freezers and transfer to end-users.
8. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
9. Make detailed observations and maintain accurate daily records.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
1. Bachelor's degree in Biology, Life Sciences or related.
2. One (1) year of experience in a laboratory environment.
3. Demonstrated ability with accurate pipetting, attention to detail and low error rate.
4. Demonstrates basic computer skills.
5. Ability to lift 40 lb freezer racks.
6. Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
7. Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
8. Experience with Ficoll gradients, tissue homogenizer, cryopreservation, sample storage/processing and following SOPs is preferred.
