Kelly Services is seeking a Machine Operator - Weld Prep Lead

Overview

Prepares pipe and plate for weld per instructions.



Responsibilities

Plans sequence of operations per blueprint in preparation for welding.

Sets up and operates machines and tools associated with welding such as, saw, pipe cutting machines, plasma table, and/or drill press.

Perform coping, beveling, grinding, and sanding; uses a cutting torch.

Uses forklift and overhead crane during operations.

Verifies conformance of workpiece to specifications using various measuring devices.

Performs routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM.

Works individually and as a team to develop and implement quality and efficiency improvements.

Conducts tests and inspections of products, or processes to evaluate quality or performance; examines products or work to verify conformance to specifications.

Additional Responsibilities

May be required to cross-train and demonstrate competency on all essential job functions of the department working at different work stations as production needs require.

Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships; training and teaching others.

Maintenance of a clean and orderly work area free of excess materials.

Support of and involvement in company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.


Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with production processes, machines, and/or tools.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, proportions, and decimals. Ability and understanding of various measuring devices in meeting drawing dimensions and specifications.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, work instructions, diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.

Work requires continual attention to detail in follow-through, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.

Certifications / Training: Forklift and Overhead Crane certifications While performing the duties of this job, the employee is designated to a production floor location and frequently works near moving mechanical parts and exposed to dust, heat, and sounds and noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable.



May require exposure to hazardous equipment or physical hazards; requires wearing protective and/or safety equipment. Safety glasses with side shields and steel-toe shoes are required in all areas of the production floor.

May require exposure to hazardous equipment or physical hazards including intense ultraviolet light, vapors, fumes, electromagnetic fields and very hot materials. Requires wearing protective and/or safety equipment, safety glasses with side shields and steel-toe shoes, googles, welding hoods with protective lenses, harness and other protective equipment.

May work at different workstations as production needs require or shift from one work cell to another during the welding process. Work requires meeting performance deadlines and being exact or highly accurate; requires face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams wand working with others in a group or team.



Normal Work Schedule:

The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the direction of management and while generally as shown below, may be changed (increased or decreased) by the management as required to meet the needs of the business; may be required to work overtime as determined by the needs of business.



Hours of Work:

5:00am-3:30pm (Monday-Thursday) with one-half hour lunch and two breaks. Overtime may be scheduled as needed and directed by management.
