Maintenance Engineer


Responsible for the cost effective monitoring, scheduling and management of planned routine and prioritization of unplanned maintenance for plant equipment and machinery. Analyze breakdowns, diagnose faults, offer technical expertise and supervise time critical equipment repairs and the team that responds and completes them. Function as project development member to install and maintain new equipment. Work in a safe and environmentally sound manner. Continuously improve the maintenance response and reliability of the plant and production assets.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES** include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

+ Develops a highly competent team that continuously produces the highest quality work in the most cost-effective way;

+ Implement World Class Maintenance Processes (Planning & Scheduling, Preventative and Predictive Maintenance strategies) to drive Asset Reliability and ongoing reliability improvements;

+ Work closely with operations to understand work priorities and resource allocation;

+ Develop and maintain key performance metrics to demonstrate both the maintenance department and overall plant equipment health;

+ Responsible for departmental cost control including overtime and expenses;

+ Maintain, modify, and create drawings associated with facility layout, piping & instrumentation, electrical distribution, and equipment design & construction;

+ Responsible for the overall safety program for the department;

+ Plan, communicate, and document intended physical and procedural changes through management-of-change system;

+ Responsible for environmental compliance for the department;

+ Monitor maintenance expense budget and monitor expenses monthly ensuring timely issuance of POs and receiving of goods;

+ Provide and document proper training for subordinates in safety, environmental compliance, processes and work procedures;

+ Reports weekly departmental activities and accomplishments;

+ Ensure compliance with PSM and RMP requirements and documentation;

+ Ensure the computerized maintenance management system is kept current with plant equipment and systems and is utilized to manage corrective, predictive, and preventive maintenance;

+ Select and qualify contractors for maintenance work to meet safety, quality, cost and deadline targets;

+ Maintain departmental ISO procedures and work instructions, ensuring they are current and reflective of actual departmental practices.

+ Project engineering duties as they relate to Capital expenditures.

+ Partake in annual capital planning and expense process.

+ Maintain clear lines of communication with all Cedartown functional groups, (Production, Process, Inventory, Quality) as well as contractors

+ Support overall plant objectives by accepting assignment and working with plant peers.


The maintenance department personnel report to and are supervised by this position.


+ B.S. degree in engineering, mechanical, chemical, electrical, or a closely related field and/or 5-10 years progressive experience working with plant maintenance in industrial chemical production or a closely aligned industry.

+ Familiarity with applicable industrial engineering standards, codes, & best practices such as IBC, API, ASME, and NFPA.

+ Strong and disciplined technical skills, as well as, proficiency in the use of personal computers are required.

+ Must have excellent problem solving and logic skills, with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy, being a strong team player, good communication skills and having good follow through.

+ May be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

+ Familiarity with CAD systems, databasing software, spreadsheets & programing software, as well as CMMS & ERP software.

+ Requisite electro/mechanical and process/systems understanding which could be developed while obtaining an engineering degree, as well as process industry experience.

+ People-oriented manager with strong knowledge of modern maintenance systems; excellent organizational and prioritization skills; the ability to function in a small company culture and manage a self-directed work team.
