**Job Description:**

**How will you make an impact?**

You will provide the cross functional leadership, operations acumen, and results focus to reliably meet and/or exceed product delivery targets while achieving high levels of quality. You will partner across the site to implement robust business and manufacturing processes to support the successful planning, production, testing, and release of product in a fast-paced, CDMO production environment. Drive continuous improvement across the primary operational pillars of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People (SQDCP).


**What will you do?**

Lead Upstream Fermentation, Downstream Plasmid purification process and final filling

Ensure the safety of assigned areas and work practices in accordance with site and company EHS programs.

Provide daily management oversight for all drug substance (DS) production activities at Carlsbad site ensuring processes and products are compliant with global current good manufacturing practices (cGMP).

Partner with clients, manufacturing sciences, and program managers to facilitate technical transfer of client processes to manufacturing including management of change controls, drafting / revision of batch records and procedures, and establishing process and equipment training programs.

Recruit and develop staff to execute department functions; ensure effective utilization of resources through strong people leadership including consistent performance management, robust employee development and routine rewards and recognitions practices.

Establish department / individual goals and key performance indicators in alignment with company and operational goals; maintain and report applicable department and delivery metrics with accountability.

Drive continuous improvement and Operational Excellence culture thru self-detecting and self-correcting processes and systems and instilling strong ownership and accountability.

Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate quality, operational, and organizational risks; escalate key risks and issues.

Ensure that the production rooms operate efficiently (Maintain production schedule with resource planning; material staging, environmental monitoring, and facilities cleaning, and maintenance/calibration).

Interact with Supply Chain team and when necessary, vendors (raw materials, equipment, and reagent supplies, validation, calibration, and maintenance activities through the Facilities Department. or independently) on a regular basis to discuss needs and requirements including supply availability, delivery, and maintain inventory management system in clean rooms for general Kanban supplies, etc.

Assist in evaluating and implementing short and long-term scheduling, staffing, planning for manufacturing operation.

Ability to adapt quickly to changing work priorities. Ability to embrace change. Experience and skills in driving change

Assist in obtaining proper equipment to keep pace with increases and changes in production requirements relative to throughput, efficiency, and advances in technology.

Work in collaboration with Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Manufacturing, MSAT, Supply Chain, Facilities and Project Management to achieve the departmental goals and objectives.


**Requirements:**


+ Bachelors in Life Sciences or Engineering

+ Minimum of 5 years management experience in biopharmaceuticals manufacturing.

+ Large scale cGMP Fermentation & Purification experience, preferably in a CDMO

+ Analyzing and presenting data

+ Ability to function in a fast paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities simultaneously

+ Strong planning, organization and multitasking skills

+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

+ Ability to make decisions and work with minimal to moderate supervision.

+ Able to provide effective written or verbal communication to peers, senior associates, and area management within their operational groups

+ Solid understanding of applicable regulatory requirements.

+ Thorough knowledge of cGMPs.
