Description The purpose of the Manufacturing Systems Engineer (Packaging) is to provide support in all aspects of the packaging systems. Provide focus and emphases on **continuous improvement of manufacturing and packaging effectiveness and reliability by enhancement of, development of and complete documentation of sustainable processes, practices and support maintenance of the technical library. Supplement new technology & process implementation. Develop and or enhance current operations and maintenance technicians training.** This role directly reports to the Plant Engineering Manager with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Packaging Department Manager.


**Continuous Improvement: - Enhance Packaging Systems Effectiveness**

+ Asses and enhance KPI and other target settings.

+ packaging and sanitation efficiency
+ Leverage best practices for asset utilization, care and operation as well as capitalize on technologies with cross-functional, cross-plant teams. Enhancement of or Development of SOP’s, TOS, PM’s and Safety Procedures, etc. This will require personnel assessment, collaboration with Packaging Manager(s), Maintenance Manager(s) or their designee as well as development of a sustainable auditing process.
+ Assemble Technical Information for Packaging Systems. Review and audit accuracy of process schematics, standard operating procedures, sanitation pin charts, line design rates (including line equipment design rate reviews) including upstream and downstream capabilities.
+ Conduct pertinent operations record reviews, assess deviations using statistics and verify the conformance to standards.
+ Perform, drive and document root cause analyses and corrective action investigations.
+ Track cost reductions in all process improvement activities (i.e. equipment mro spending, materials, utilities, yield, and labor) utilizing tools such as MRO and business financial tracking reports, equipment history CMMS reports vs expected budget.
+ Identify key process waste initiatives, including seeking out opportunities and eliminating waste in areas anywhere from raw material, product delivery through finished package including sanitation.
**Technical Support**

Quality Control:

+ Evaluate/determine impact/risk to ideal product body and texture of cottage cheese and sour cream associated with any actual or proposed system change.
+ Define, document and communicate scope of projector trial, sample collection process, lead internal/external testing, assessment and isolation of variables required and interpretation of results. Prepare and propose recommendations as well as sustainability plans for success of the proposed change.
+ Document all projects, analysis, and audit related work requests through the use of OneNote and other formal reporting means. Confer with management, production, and engineering staff to discuss project specifications and procedures.
New Technology or System Enhancements

+ Support Execution of new packaging technology to existing equipment.
+ Delivery of new lines/equipment - could include participation in scope development all the way through implementation, start up, validation phases. Insurance of sustainable processes, procedures and technical library development. The project origin could evolve from a multitude of sources that includes business initiatives, quality improvements and productivity/cost-reduction activities.
Training and Development

+ Assist plant leadership in learning delivery of best, practices new technologies. Validate learning plans and training needs of packaging & maintenance technicians associated with product and/or process improvements, new equipment commissioning etc.

+ BS Science/Engineering - packaging engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, chemical engineering, or very closely related bachelor's degrees.
+ The Manufacturing Systems Engineer (Packaging) will have **5-7 years of related experience in a packaging engineering** role in the **food/dairy industry.**
+ Project management experience desired
+ Additional Education/Certifications (highly desired, but not required) - **HACCP, USDA, FDA, OSHA, GMP, SPC, Green/Black Belt** etc.

+ Familiarity with dairy/food plant operations
+ Familiarity with cultured dairy products, procedures, and equipment
+ **Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement. Root Cause, TPM, Kaizen, Autonomous Maintenance**
