JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Mechanical Team Leader, the Mechanical Design Engineer encompasses the design and analysis of parts, components, assemblies, and systems, along with the production of associated drawings and instructions. The Mechanical Design Engineer plans, conducts and coordinates a range of complex engineering activities encompassing one or more engineering disciplines.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Under general guidance, perform various engineering duties requiring the exercise of judgment and application of standard engineering principles and practices. Generate detailed mechanical and electro-mechanical design solutions and drawings for electrical systems and products.


Basic Qualifications

3D Modeling software proficiency.

Experience in designing enclosures with desired structural integrity using sheet metal, plastics, extruded and die casted aluminum parts.

Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly techniques used in electronic equipment.

Familiar with thermal design of electronic equipment (IGBTs, Magnetics & Heatsinks).

Prior experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics software analysis preferred.

Familiarity with UL and IEC agency requirements and approval procedures.

Performs both their own design tasks and can assist with other team members with their tasks.

Prepare specifications, BOM (bills of material) and related documents in accordance with requirements, established formats and general instructions.

Plan, conduct or coordinate engineering analyses and tests, and prepare related reports and summaries, for review.

Participate in the investigation of technical problems and the establishment of procedures and corrective actions to avoid recurrences.


Preferred Qualifications

Proficient in Creo & Windchill.

Experience using CFD thermal simulations, FloEFD preferred.

Familiar with UL50, 50E, 508C, 61800-5-1 and IEC 61800-5-1 & 60529

Prior experience in power conversion equipment mechanical design.

Prior experience with SAP.

Prior experience with plastic injection molding design.

Basic understanding of EMC design.


Other duties will include

Maintain technical competency and remain current in changes in the industry.

Practice strict compliance with all safety rules whenever working on energized electrical equipment and help enforce such safety standards with others who may be involved in work on such energized equipment.

Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
