**Position Summary**

The Supervisor, Microbiology is accountable for driving results in a fast-paced environment by leading and coordinating the activities of a pharmaceutical microbiology group. Develops production and resource plans that meet production goals in terms of safety, quality, output and cost. Ensures staff has been properly trained and that deliverables are met or expectations are proactively managed towards alternative solutions. Provides technical expertise to the Lab, mentors microbiology personnel and collaborates with other business groups on a regular basis.

**Essential Functions**

+ Creates project/work assignments with communication of the expected timeline and monitors the progress against the timeline.

+ Leads investigations.

+ Writes and reviews verification and validation protocols and reports.

+ Optimizes efficiency of the working environment of the group.

+ Ensures adherence to personnel and equipment SOPs and other regulatory requirements.

+ Reviews equipment operating practices and conditions to minimize equipment down time, lower maintenance costs, reduce time to run project and repeat work.

+ Provides troubleshooting support as needed on tests and equipment.

+ Monitors the quality of the group.

+ Communicates effectively with clients and internal groups.

+ Ensures timely completion and compliance with cGMP and all other relevant company training requirements.

+ Attracts, develops, and retains a high performing team to meet the current and evolving needs of the business through effective selection, training and development, coaching and mentoring and performance management.

**Education and Experience**

+ Bachelors degree in Microbiology, Biology or related scientific discipline with 5+ years of microbiology experience in a cGMP regulated environment.

+ Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

**Functional Competencies**

+ General working knowledge of method development, validation and verification.

+ General working knowledge of FDA, DEA and client inspection audits.

+ Expert knowledge of microbiology with pharmaceutical emphasis.

+ Expert knowledge of cGMP and Quality Control Systems.

+ General working knowledge of corrective and preventative actions.

+ Awareness of laboratory equipment and application USP and EP testing.

+ Superior planning and organizational skills.

+ Strong detail orientation and project management skills.

+ Good protocol and report writing skills.

+ Excellent computer technology skills.

+ Superior strategic planning skills paired with the ability to multitask and shift priorities as necessary.

+ Excellent technical knowledge of USP/EP/FDA requirements.

+ Understanding of pharmaceutical microbiology testing, environmental monitoring methods, and quality principles as applied to a cGMP environment.

**Supervisory Responsibilities**

+ Directly leads team of approximately 5 10 direct reports.

+ Participates in the hiring process of other employees.

+ Makes hiring decisions of other employees.

+ Schedules and reviews the work of other employees.

+ Ensures accuracy and relevance of assigned training curriculum.

+ Drives timely completion of training for employees to meet regulatory requirements.

+ Coaches, mentors and develops other employees.

+ Prepares and delivers performance evaluations of other employees.

+ Makes recommendation of disciplinary actions of other employees.
