Description **Job Description**

Ophthalmic Assistant For Eye Care Facility located in Newark, NY. Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM, $13.00-$14.00/hour. NOTE: Training will take place in Canandaigua and once trained there will be times when travel is required between Newark and Canandaigua.

Overview: The Ophthalmic Assistant/Refracting Tech assists the doctors in all matters involving patient care. This includes starting the patient visit, taking histories, initiating dilation, and completing refractions as appropriate.

Primary functions:

- Initiate patient visit through interview and screening following established protocols.

- Aid accounting office in gathering necessary information for insurance forms.

- Perform scribe duties to support doctor efficiency and clinical need as required.

- Cleans, sterilizes and cares for all office surgical instruments and office autoclave.

- Completes visual field and OCT testing as required.

- Screens patient questions and/or complaints of a medical nature.

- Completes follow up to patients as necessary.

- Maintain and order adequate supplies for the clinical department.

- Uncovering, daily cleaning and covering of clinical ophthalmic equipment.

- Set up instruments for minor surgeries.

- Assist with minor surgeries or lasers as required.

- Clean and stock examination rooms.

- Know and follow specific protocols for each doctor in the practice.

- Maintain audio-visual equipment.

- Complete additional duties as assigned.

**Requirements**

Minimum Qualifications:

- CPR certified Preferred

- Ability to understand and spell common ophthalmic words, definitions and descriptions

- Understanding of CPT and ICD-9 coding

- High level of organization

- The ability to remain focused in a high intensity position

- Ability to differentiate and manage multiple doctor protocols

- Ability to put the good of the practice ahead of personal concern

- Ability to work well with fellow staff and supervisory staff

- Keyboarding experience, with rapid, accurate typing

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
