Salary Range: $70k-$80k


DIRECT HIRE


The Payroll Office is responsible for processing pay for all University employees timely and accurately in accordance with complex federal and state regulations. The Payroll Manager oversees all functional aspects of the payroll operation including ensuring the accurate and timely completion of all University payrolls, directing and supervising departmental staff, responding to University employee inquiries regarding payroll transactions, ensuring compliance with federal and state tax regulations and completing various monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations and certifications. The Payroll Manager is responsible for the processing and reconciliation of tax deposits, quarterly and yearly tax reporting including filing of W-2s. This position serves as the primary liaison with central administration as well as serves as the primary contact for University departments for timekeeping and payroll related questions. This position is responsible for approving payroll adjustments, reconciliation of corresponding ledger accounts and posting of necessary journal entries. This position develops and provides training to departments and university employees. This position actively engages in process improvements and ensures effective and efficient internal controls exist within the Payroll Office.


Experienced payroll leader with comprehensive knowledge of the payroll function and best practices; this includes federal and state regulations regarding taxation, wages, garnishments and the Fair Labor Standards Act. Business acumen with experience in fiscal operations management and accounting including a demonstrated ability to apply and adapt accounting principles and methods to a variety of fiscal situations. Considerable experience with complex integrated Payroll, HRIS and financial systems. Excellent analytical and reasoning skills, understanding of internal controls. Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with employees, departments and agencies external to the University and provide customer service in a timely and professional manner. Ability to organize and coordinate projects involving numerous people and departments. Strong leadership skills and demonstrated progressive supervisory experience including ability to train and direct the work of supporting staff.




Payroll experience in state government and/or higher education. Working knowledge of the Banner Finance and/or Banner Human Resource systems. Experience managing interfaces with third party providers including ADP.


Education/experience


Education: Must have a Masters degree in accounting, finance, taxation, business administration or related field, or Bachelors degree in these fields and significant related professional experience.


Experience: Must have extensive previous payroll and customer service related work experience. Must have considerable supervisory experience including a demonstrated ability to lead, train and direct the work of supporting staff. Proficient with automated payroll systems, Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
