We seek a PhD or MS SCIENTIST with STRONG MOLECULAR and CELLULAR BIOLOGY, CELL CULTURE and PROTEIN CHARACTERIZATION SKILLS to work with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:
1. Design and perform experiments and interpret results.
2. Work with Principal Investigators to manage the daily operation of the laboratory, including coordinating activities of research projects and personnel; ensure availability of equipment and supplies; monitor laboratory budget.
3. Work with staff on the planning for future equipment and personnel needs.
4. Orient and train others on the methods and procedures used in the laboratory.
5. Independently plan, develop and implement assigned experiments and protocols; recommend methods and develop and/or modify methods and procedures to meet the experimental objectives.
6. Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of the particular area of research throughout the life of the project; review available literature on new methods and techniques for potential application within the laboratory.
7. Conduct a full range of research experiments by performing complex procedures and techniques including but not limited to, isolation and purification of monoclonal antibodies, radioimmunoassay, DNA sequencing, siRNA and RNA extraction, protein analysis, restriction mapping, HPLC, column chromatography, mass spectrometry, peptide synthesis, immunoprecipitation, ELISA , necropsy, small and large animal surgery, gene cloning, animal bleeding, injection, tagging and tailing, cell/tissue culture, cytotoxic assays, cell fraction and isolation, PCR , real time PCR, western blotting, southern and northern analysis, histochemical techniques, staining techniques, growth and assay of virus, etc.
8. Conduct experiments with flow cytometry and FACS; perform multicolor FACS analysis, genomic DNA and plasmid purification and analysis, immunoprecipitation, isolation and analysis of chromatin, analysis of DNA binding proteins.
9. Work with staff to manage animal colonies; write and submit an animal care protocol.
10. Solve problems by making necessary modifications or adaptations.
11. Calibrate and operate a variety of laboratory instruments used to perform tests, analyses and other laboratory procedures, including but not limited to, automated cell counters, amino acid analyzed and sequencer, autoclaves, centrifuges, densitometer, electron microscope, electrophoresis apparatus, flow cytometer, fluorescent microscope, GC, HPLC, mass spectrometer, nucleotide synthesizer, peptide synthesizer, pH meter, radiation therapy simulators, real time PCR and PCR machines, UV/VIS spectrophotometers, spectrofluorometer, scintillation and gamma counters, ultracentrifuge, etc.
12. Collect, record, analyze and interpret data; determine specific data needed and the best approach and methods to obtain these data.
13. Evaluate and interpret the significance of the data to a project or assignment.
14. Prepare summaries, graphs and other material of laboratory findings in final form for publication in reports and papers to be presented at scientific meetings and/or publication in scientific journals.
15. Prepare manuscripts, abstracts and/or posters.
16. Present findings at scientific conferences and meetings; present articles, data and findings at journal clubs, local lab meetings and departmental lab meetings.
17. Train and oversee doctoral and other students and laboratory personnel in the use of laboratory equipment and in the performance of specialized procedures and techniques.
18. Support and maintain central computerized biology software, databases and information dissemination products; provide guidance, support, training and advice in computational biology systems to staff.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
1. PhD in Biology or a related discipline; three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree is equivalent to a PhD.
2. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a research laboratory environment.
3. Comprehensive, intensive knowledge, acquired through fundamental training and experience, of the theories and principles of biology, microbiology, molecular biology, and/or chemistry.
4. Strong verbal and written communications skills.
5. Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
