**Job Description**


GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Credentials Coordinator processes and monitors initial and renewal applications for Professional Staff appointments and clinical privileges. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, Joint Commission, NCQA and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital-s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards


RESPONSIBLE FOR; N/A RESPONSIBLE TO: Director, Credentialing and Regulatory Readiness

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: A. Processes and monitors initial and reappointment applications for Professional Staff Appointments and clinical privileges, to include but not limited to: 1. Communicating with applicants and clinical department administrators; 2. Preparing and distributing information and applications for Professional Staff appointment and reappointment within prescribed timeframes 3. Conducting primary source verification and collecting all required documentation 4. Entering information correctly and accurately into the database 5. Preparing for presentation to the Credentials Committee, Medical Executive Committee and QSPAC 6. Sends application packets out four months ahead of the re-appointment date and follows up with provider B. Maintains accurate and current files and databases. Updates database with changes of status, change of address, and other pertinent information in a timely manner. C. Sends reminders and delinquent notices to providers regarding expiring or expired licenses, health clearance and other required documents. D. Submits queries to the National Practitioner Data Bank, AMA, OIG, SAM, Medicare Opt Out and Maryland Medicaid Sanction. E. Processes and monitors Allied Health initial Authorization to Practice and ReAuthorization to Practice as outline in Section A F. Prepares for and participates in audits performed by regulator and accrediting agencies including Joint Commission, NCQA, DC Department of Health, managed care organizations and others G. Authorizes forms for new providers to obtain security ID and parking

H. Functions as a liaison, advisor and resource for credentialing to Professional Staff providers Department administrators and other Hospital Personnel. I. Provides telephone coverage for the Office J. Exemplifies Patient First and SPIRT values in all activities. K. Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. L. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all inclusive.


SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Computer and database experience essential. Must be accurate and detail oriented with an ability to handle multiple projects and reach multiple deadline. Ability to serve as a resource person, resolve administrative problems, and exercise sound judgment in decision making. Excellent time management skills and an ability to communicate effectively, to identify issues and to work toward solutions. Strong Verbal and written communication skills required.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:


WORKING SCHEDULE: Will normally work Monday through Friday day shift.


THE SCHEDULE MAY BE CHANGED AS BUSINESS NEEDS DICTATE.


**Requirements**


Physician Credentialing Exp. Required - Certificate and/or license preferred

4 years previous office experience (at lest 2 in a healthcare setting)

Associates Degree in Heath Care/Business Management Preferred
