The Principal Anatomic Veterinary Pathologist (PAIP) will offer a range of pre-clinical services to meet the needs of pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical companies. The PAIP will play a leading role and actively work with the Strategic Team in the corporate strategic planning and the organization of the research activities and programs, to visualize the future expansion, and to assess periodically the resource needs to achieve missions. The PAIP will provide the scientific support to the laboratories: clinical laboratory, histology, and immunoassays. The PAIP will support the pathology needs for the toxicology and efficacy programs by providing and overseeing the gross-, and histo-pathology needs.


**RESPONSIBILITIES** include the following:


+ The PAIP is a very central role and will be part of the Strategic Team.

+ Contribute to improving and refining the company vision and the Strategic direction of our unique research services and products. Help set the company research and scientific priorities so that they line up with the overall mission and goals of the organization.

+ Stay updated on technological advances and industry trends and advice the scientific team, BD, and Management in scientific matters. Identify and make recommendations on future strategic directions, service offering and products, and new research opportunities or technological ventures.

+ Be a member of the Scientific Committee and participate, support and lead some internal and contract research projects, as well as the development of new service lines, animal models, assays, technologies or products.

+ The PAIP will be expected to generate scientific and promotional publications in the form of white paper, promotional documents, peer review manuscripts, and posters to be used to promote the services and products offered. At times, the PAIP may present the research findings to promote the company know-how. However, the PAIP shall not reveal the proprietary components of the service or product offerings to the public but documenting it well for posterity.

+ The PAIP will be the scientific leader for all pathology matters and will be the primary engine to support the growth and expansion of this service.

+ Act as a pathology expert and will support sales and dealing with clients regarding finding interpretations and other services offered at Sinclair, including animal modeling.

+ Provide medical and scientific expertise in clinical and anatomic pathology according to existing regulations and sponsors requirements.

+ Gross and histological examinations of tissues from internal and externally contracted from in vivo studies for Exploratory Toxicology, Pharmacology and Translational Development.

+ Histological examinations of samples for target validation and mechanism of action investigations, while providing histopathological diagnostic expertise.

+ Support biomarker assay development efforts for discovery (PD biomarker), exploratory toxicology (safety biomarker) and translational development (clinical trials biomarkers).

+ Interpret pathological changes and generate pathogenesis hypotheses.

+ Responsibility for authorship of study pathology reports.

+ Familiarity of early safety assessment testing paradigms and risk mitigation strategies.

+ Develop a network of external collaborator pathologists and interact with them as necessary to generate peer review and interpretation of pathology study results when volume demand exceed internal capacity or for required specific expertise.

+ Must follow all SOP's pertaining to the area of work, insure that other employees follow the SOP's and contribute to the generation of new SOP's.

+ Performs all other duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS:** To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. **Directly Supervises:** Technical and veterinary staff within the Laboratory Clinical Medicine unit. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising employee performances; addressing complaints and resolving problems; model development, advanced clinical communication, and advanced planning within the veterinary technical services division.


**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:** A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (D.V.M.) or equivalent with board certification in Veterinary Pathology, in addition to prior experience in pathology, toxicology, pharmacology, and histology within a CRO or in a comparable drug development environment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally, the noise level can be elevated.


**POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:** This position is classified as Exempt; employees shall be paid an established salary and are expected to fulfill the duties of their position regardless of hours worked. Exempt employees are not eligible to receive overtime compensation. This is a full-time position required to work at least 90-hours each two-week pay period. Due to the nature of our business employees must be present 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which results in varying work hours. This position regularly requires long hours and weekend work.


**TRAVEL:** Some travel is necessary for this position including conventions and off-site meetings. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
