**Kelly Services is seeking a Principal Scientist, Toxicology for a Permanent position in Bridgewater, NJ.**


The Principal Scientist, Toxicology is responsible for planning and performing scientific experiments that contribute to research and drug discovery activities. The Principal Scientist is also responsible for communicating experimental results to his/her supervisor and the project team.


The incumbent works cross-functionally with internal departments, and external resources as appropriate, as part of discovery science project teams.


S/he also supports adherence to relevant regulatory requirements and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as appropriate.


**Job Description:**


**_Primary duties/responsibilities:_**


+ Evaluates compounds for the potential to cause genotoxicity.

+ Develops assays to identify the mechanisms of genetic toxicity.

+ Serve as Study monitor for GLP and non-GLP studies performed at CROs.

+ Independently plans, initiates, directs and executes scientific research and experiments and interprets and communicates results as part of multi-disciplinary team(s). This includes performing analyses of primary research literature.

+ Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories related to Genetic Toxicology.

+ Contributes to the strategy and direction of successful drug discovery programs.

+ Presents findings internally and externally to cross-functional teams.

+ Abides by all safety and regulatory guidelines.

+ Maintains a detailed laboratory notebook.

+ Performs other tasks as assigned.

+ Contributes to general lab needs such as:

+ Equipment maintenance.

+ Capital equipment purchases.

+ Troubleshoot


**KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED**


+ Extensive experience in genetic toxicology assays.

+ Experience with high throughput assays to screen for genetic toxicity.

+ Track record of consistent and successful drug discovery accomplishments (e.g., patent inventorship , conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications)


**_* Minimum level of education and years of relevant work experience._**


+ Ph.D. in a scientific discipline preferably Molecular Toxicology, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology or Cell Biology with a minimum of 8 years relevant Industry experience or a Masters with 10 years of experience in a similar discipline Or equivalent combination of education and experience. .


**_* Special knowledge or skills needed and/or licenses or certificates required._**


+ Works on unusually complex technical problem and provides solutions which are highly innovative.

+ Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives. Assignments are often self-initiated.

+ Exercises independent judgment within defined procedures and practices.

+ Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product.

+ Demonstrates technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought within a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members

+ Manage and mentor a team of scientists in fast paced matrix environment.

+ May oversee academic collaboration and/or be designated as a subcontractor or co-PI on research grants

+ Interviews and contributes to the evaluation of candidates.

+ Possesses detailed and expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts.

+ Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferably MS Excel and MS PowerPoint or similar

+ Excellent verbal and written communication and skills.

+ Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills.

+ Demonstrates an understanding of the strategic alignment of his/her work with corporate goal(s) and demonstrates the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

+ Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects.

+ Experience with directing exploratory toxicology studies.

+ Experience with computational toxicology.
