**Summary/Objective**

From customer-driven interest and internal prioritization, the process chemist will develop commercially viable chemical process routes meeting customer requirements. Must possess a basic understanding of modern organic synthesis methodologies. Must be capable of independently developing lab methods for GCs, HPLCs. Maintain and troubleshot lab instruments. Considerable interaction within the technical team and customers will help guide the development process and activities of the chemist.



**Essential Functions**

**Specific Duties and Responsibilities:**

1. Conduct laboratory operations in a safe manner

2. Develop and optimize chemical process routes for customer evaluation

3. Convert laboratory procedures into processes suitable for operation in pilot plant reactors up to

30 gallons and production equipment up to 4000 gallons

4. Develop and implement toll customer analytical methods onto laboratory instruments

5. Create SOPs for new methods and train laboratory personnel

6. Work directly or as part of team with customers to meet specifications and set project deadlines

7. Write technical articles describing procedures, experimental results, or formulations for company use and documentation



**Position Requirements/Abilities/Skills:**

1. Relevant industrial chemistry experience required to develop, formulate, scale up, introduce to commercial plant, and analyze products

2. The ability to perform maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.

3. Good written and verbal skills in English to be able to effectively communicate within the company and with customers

4. Demonstrate skills to efficiently conduct experiments and development for Company and customer demands

5. Hands on experience in laboratory and pilot plant environments

6. This person must be familiar with and execute all life critical safety procedures and permits


**Work Environment**

The work environment will in a climate controlled chemical laboratory within the plant.



Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.



Able to view computer screen for lengths at a time.



All types of chemical industry equipment are used in the plant to include, but not limited to fermentation vessels, jet cookers, agitators, mixing and milling equipment, distillation columns, centrifuges, and distributive control systems.



While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to loud noises, fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals (including high and low pH), flammable materials, and moving mechanical parts.



Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and fume hoods is required.

Certain procedures may require the use enhanced personal protective equipment such as a fit tested, full-face respirator.



**Physical Demands**

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.



The employee is required to sit, climb, or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.



The employee must navigate stairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.



Employee must be willing and able to wear safety equipment, such as but not limited to, ear plugs, safety glasses and/or goggles, steel toe boots, and face shields.



Employee will be required to be fit-tested for full-face respirators.



**Position Type/Expected Hours of Work**

Normal schedule is an eight-hour/day, 5-days per week. Adjustments to work schedule may be required in order to meet project deadlines.



**Required Education and Experience**

1. M.S. in Chemistry with > 2yrs experience

2. Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry with > 5yrs experience



**Preferred Education and Experience**

1. Prefer a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience developing chemical processes in industrial laboratory and pilot plant including analytical methods.
