**Title:** Process Development Associate (Downstream)

**Location:** San Diego

**Position Type:** Contract to Hire

**Shift Schedule:** Monday Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

**Pay:** Depending on Experience

**Overall Responsibilities:**

+ Assists the PD Lead Associates, Associate Scientists, Scientists, and Senior Scientists with the development work for scalable and robust processes on accelerated timelines.

+ Performs process development activities for projects and products in collaboration with other individuals and departments.

+ Assists with technical transfer of downstream purification processes from clients and between Process Development and MSAT/MFG groups.

+ Assists in scale-up calculations for varying scales of the process up to cGMP scale.

+ Capable of calculating buffer formulations and executing production.

+ Assists in the documentation of observations and collecting data for analysis. Capable of data management. Capable of identifying trends in data and notifies scientists of possible impacts.

+ Conducts activities in support of production schedules and objectives as directed by senior staff.

+ Maintains records to comply with regulatory requirements and assists with in-process testing.

+ Maintains lab organization and cleanliness by regularly stocking supplies and managing supply inventory.

+ Assemble and autoclave tubing assemblies.

+ Maintains cleanliness of specific equipment such as AKTAs systems and biosafety cabinet.

+ Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative analytical methods.

+ Represents departmental activities as needed, including project teams, training, and evaluation of new technologies.

+ As needed, assists in protein purification under cGMP standards for clinical trial material.

+ Perform other related duties as assigned.

**General Responsibilities:**

+ Adheres to quality standards set by regulations and policies, procedures and mission.

+ Communicates effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and staff.

+ Ability to participate effectively as a team player in all aspects of business.

+ Travels as needed between sites, and to attend professional conferences and train on new technologies.

**Qualifications/Skills Required:**

+ AA/AS or BA/BS degree that included laboratory work in a biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, biotechnology, biochemistry or related field plus 1-3 years in a laboratory environment.

+ Basic knowledge of antibody structure.

+ Basic knowledge of purification strategies and concepts such as column packing and column chromatography.

+ Basic knowledge of operating AKTA systems: GE Pure, Avant, Pilot, Ready.

+ Knowledge of buffer formulation and preparation.

+ Skill with Microsoft Office suite.

+ Ability to follow detailed instructions and to maintain accurate records and notes.

+ Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

+ Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks, when required.

+ Skills in problem solving and troubleshooting.

+ Ability to safely operate production equipment in accordance with established practices.
